Le Moulin, isolated mill cottage on its own island
A quaint mill house, situated on its own private island on the outskirts of the medieval city of Domfront. Enjoy the peace and quiet of the country, just steps from the town's attractions. Just a short stroll (or pedal) and you are on the 'voie verte' cycle and footpath connecting Ouistreham on the Channel coast, to La Rochelle on the Atlantic. For more local information and event dates, search the websites: (Website hidden by Airbnb) (Website hidden by Airbnb) It is a truly unique house, surrounded by fresh water and beautiful views. The accommodation is suitable for couples or two people - there is a double bed in the bedroom and a single bed on the adjacent landing which can be curtained to form a separate space. You will have the whole house and garden just to yourself - we like to cut the grass once a week, but if it is during your stay we will arrange a time when you are away. Parking is on the island - literally next to the front door so no need to struggle with suitcases. You can walk into town quite a climb, but downhill on the way back!) or drive. Once in the centre there is plenty of parking and easy access to the shops, cafes and bars. The cottage is completely private and apart from receiving and handing back the keys at the beginning and end of your stay you don't need to see another person. If you need any help, I am only 10 minutes away and am very happy to assist in making your stay a pleasant and comfortable time. Domfront is centrally located in the department of Orne, equidistant from the shopping centres of Mayenne and Flers, and surrounded by all the normal attractions to be found in Rural Normandy. Whether you enjoy rock climbing; fishing; paragliding; horse riding; architecture; good food or just peace and quiet, everything is available close at hand. Famous landmarks such as the Normandy beaches and Mont Saint Michel are about an hours drive away and easily enjoyed in a day out. France has a fantastic road network with very light traffic so driving, even on the wrong side of the road is a good way to get around. More locally, there are battery assisted bicycles at several locations around the town (the closest is about 6 minutes walk from the house) which can take you to the local towns and villages. The central heating is powered by the wood stove, so if you are booking during the colder months you will need to keep the fire going. Firewood is rprovided free of charge, so there will be no problem staying warm and snug. You're on an island, so fishing is as easy as stepping out the front door. You will need a license, although these are easily purchased at one of the Tabacs in town.
