Mallard Cottage, Norfolk. Spacious Family Getaway
Four bedroom cottage in West Norfolk ideally suited for two or three families. Lovely rural location with many local woodland and riverside walks from the property. An ideal base to explore Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. Plenty of parking. Large open plan kitchen and dining area. Cosy sitting room with 50 inch TV. All bedding, bedroom furniture, TV, dining table set, kitchen equipment and tableware are brand new in May 2021. On the ground floor there is a large open plan kitchen and dining area and a separate sitting room with 50 inch TV and french doors leading to the back garden. Also a small downstairs cloakroom. Upstairs are the four bedrooms and bathroom. The TV has freeview and BT TV entertainment channels. If you have your own Netflix and / or Amazon Prime account then you may log on and use this on the TV. There is a good selection of board games and children’s puzzles available inside the property. Please let me know in advance of your stay if you require a high chair or travel cot and this can be arranged. In the front garden there is a patio area with table and seating and a bbq. Parking available for multiple cars. Bicycles may be stored in the Garage. I will be available on the telephone for any queries and live locally so will usually be available. The property is on the edge of the very quiet small village of Wretton in West Norfolk. Wretton has a church and childrens playground which you can easily walk to. The larger village of Stoke Ferry adjoins Wretton and has more ammenites including a village shop named The Corner Shop selling basics and newspapers and magazines. There is also a hardware store called Thomas B Bonnett and a hairdressing salon called Nadin Hurley. The village pub 'The Bluebell' is currently being refurbished and will hopefully re open in the summer. A little further away in the village of Whittington is a Murco garage which has a shop selling a good range of groceries and also a hand car wash. There is a kebab and pizza takeway in Stoke Ferry called Flames and also an Excellent Chinese and Fish and Chip takeaway called Good Earth, you can place your order by telephone (online for Flames) and then drive a couple of minutes to collect (menus are in the property). The nearest pub is the Bedingfeld Arms in the village of Oxborough which is about 4 miles away. This has a lovely bar with sofas and a roaring log fire in the winter and a sizeable garden with plenty of outdoor seating. The food is excellent. This pub is situated right next to historic Oxborough Hall which is a National Trust property well worth a visit. The house itself is located very close to a river with great walks and cycling alongside. There are many walks which can be done directly from the property and there is much wildlife in the area to spot including deer. Fishing is also possible locally. The nearest town is Downham Market which is 7 miles away. This is a small market town with a Tesco and Morrison’s, Bank, Naxos Restaurant and a Wetherspoons as well as several independent shops including a fishing tackle shop. There is a market in the town every Friday. There is a train station here with direct lines to King’s Lynn, Ely, Cambridge and London King’s Cross. The town of Swaffham which is 12 miles away has a Waitrose. You will need a car to explore the local area.
