Maison La Haie is a large, rustic 3 storey village home in the heart of the picturesque 'Swiss Normandy' hills this is. Ideal for large and multiple family groups, the house is within 40 miles of Caen, Bayeux and the D-Day beaches. Swimming, kayaking, horse-riding, fishing, paragliding, rock-climbing & golf are all within 10 miles and the area is very popular for cycling and walking. Must-see Mont-St-Michel is just 1.5 hrs away, as are Honfleur & Deauville. There is a huge amount to see and do. You will be renting the entire house and the space is very flexible, and well-suited for multiple family groups. There are 4 separate suites - each with their own shower room/wc. Bedroom 1 is a dual aspect room with a roll top bath overlooking the back garden, and an ensuite. Bedroom 2 has its own adjoining lounge which has a sofa bed for additional sleeping and its own ensuite. Bedroom 3 and 4 are in the same suite and share the same bathroom which all have separate doors off a small lounge area. Bedroom 5 has a big lounge area with additional sleeping and its own ensuite. The spacious, open-plan kitchen and dining area has new fitted kitchen with all 'mod-cons' you would expect - range oven, microwave oven, dishwasher, fridge, wine fridge and coffee machine. Dining table will seat 12 adults. There is also a large log burner for those cooler evenings. There is a study/hallway with computer with internet access. Utility/laundry room with a freezer, washer, dryer and separate WC. In the lounge there're comfy sofas and lots of books and board games as well as a couple of guitars and piano keyboard for the musically-inclined. Ate the rear of the house is a new decking area with a comfy sofa and dinning area shaded by the pergola so suitable even in the high of summer. During July and August we also have a 14 foot above ground plunge pool (not heated)- ideal to cool off in when the weather gets too hot. Main house, driveway and garden. Off-road parking. (Separate gite which is not rented, this is where we live when we are in France and is not attached to the main house although we walk across the driveway to access it) We live most of the time in France in the gîte. This shares the drive access but when the house is rented the guests have use of the patio, garden and plunge pool. When we are here we will be on hand for any enquiries. Otherwise we are always available via phone, email or FaceTime. The house is in a sleepy village at the top of a wooded hill. The village has an excellent bakery with attached mini-market. Larger supermarkets and shopping are 10 minutes drive. Bars and restaurants in nearby villages 2-3 miles away, with even more restaurants to chose from within 5 miles. Numerous local markets with excellent fresh produce. Clécy, the pretty 'capital' of the Swiss Normandy region, with its waterside restaurants and numerous activities - including kayaking and rock-climbing - is 10 miles away, as is the Roche d'Oêtre with its dramatic cliffs and gorges - perfect walking territory. There is a huge swimming lake 25 miles away, and no shortage of beaches. If you enjoy wild swimming then there is river access just down the hill in Pont Eramburg and other lovely places to swim within 10 miles. Caen is a fantastic city, with lots to see, and just 40 miles. There is no ignoring the region's history - D-Day beaches and museums are just an hour away, as is Bayeux, with its famous tapestry. William the Conqueror's castle is just 17 miles away in Falaise. Our village has its own claim to WWII fame and a small WWII museum which has some artefacts found in this house on show. We are in a rural location, so to take advantage of all the region's activities and amenities a car is recommended. Nearest airport is Caen (35 miles) where car rental is available. Flights also are available to Deauville. Please check these before booking since timetables and routes have changed since COVID. Closest ferry is Ouistreham (40 miles), with Le Havre and Cherbourg also easily accessible. Journey time from Portsmouth to Cherbourg in summer is only 3 hours. Nearest mainline train to Paris (and beyond) is 10 miles away at Flers. Channel tunnel and ferries at Calais are 4.5 hours drive. Paris is approx 3 hours by car. This is an old 'character' house (built 1858) so has some uneven floors - the stairs on one side of the house are quite narrow so may not be ideal for the less mobile. It is a three story house so there are lots of stairs. The main double-bedroom with the roll-top bath and shower room is reached via a wider staircase so is easier to access. It is a rustic home so whilst it will of course be clean, comfortable with modern amenities it has creaky floorboards and is not soundproofed. I would describe it as countryside "Shabby Chic" rather than 'urban and shiny' Any questions, do please ask before booking :)
