Grade II Listed Cottage, Downton
A warm welcome to our beautiful grade II listed cottage in the village of Downton. We are located close to the Hampshire/Wiltshire border on the edge of the New Forest National Park and the medieval cathedral city of Salisbury. The sandy beaches of the South Coast are also easily accessible. If you're looking to slow down and unwind or explore all that the surrounding area has to offer, our cottage is a perfect place to stay. Dogs are welcome, but we do have a pet charge of £20 for their stay. The cottage has three bedrooms which are set out over the first and second floors. It's fully equipped for a relaxing break for up to five guests. Well behaved dogs are welcome and there are many fantastic walks to be enjoyed both locally and further afield. On the ground floor, the open plan layout, wooden floors and original beams give the cottage a relaxed yet cosy feel. There's plenty of space for coats, shoes and boots in the entrance area with more storage space available in the utility room (where there is also a washing machine, clothes airer, ironing board and iron). Leading off the entrance area, you'll find the living room with dining area. The table is extendable and can comfortably seat five (you'll find an extra folding chair & cushion under the sofa if it’s needed). There is a smart TV and WiFi connection alongside a DVD player and Apple TV (please note Netflix and Apple TV will require a login and use of your own account). You'll also find a section of board games if Trivial Pursuit is more your thing. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you'll need during your stay including coffee maker and complimentary breakfast items. Open tread stairs lead up to the first floor where you'll find two of the three bedrooms and the bathroom. Two stair gates are available on this level if required - one for the top of the stairs leading down to the ground floor and another for the bottom of the stairs leading up to the top floor. Please note that due to the open nature of the ground floor stairs, it is not possible to fit a stair gate at the bottom of them. On the first floor, there's a single daybed in bedroom two which easily converts into a double bed. If you let us know whether you'll need a single or double bed in here, we'll make sure the room is set up for you. Bedroom three has a single bed and cosy reading nook by the window. The bathroom with bath and shower are also on this floor. The spacious master bedroom is on the top floor. This lovely, calm room has a double bed and a relaxing sitting area. Please note that this is an attic room and there is no door on the stairs leading up into this room. At the back of the house there is off street parking for two cars. The parking area leads into the garden, which is separated from the house by a shared gravel access and can be seen a few meters from the back door. Guests have the whole place to themselves. We operate a self check in system via a key safe. We will however leave mobile contact numbers upon arrival and are happy to help with questions and queries throughout your stay. The historic village of Downton has a number of pubs including one just across the road. Nearby shops include: a handy Co-Op; a local butcher; a family run café; a fish and chip shop and a nearby pharmacy. Just behind the property, you can wander in the delightful Downton Moot Gardens which border the River Avon. A direct bus route from Salisbury to Bournemouth runs through Downton. There are also other more local buses with the nearest bus stop being very close to the cottage. The nearest train station can be found in Salisbury. Well behaved dogs are welcome at the cottage but we do charge a £20 fee per stay. We would ask that dogs are kept off the furniture and are not allowed upstairs.
