La Longere, Lonlay L’Abbaye
The gite is part of an old, stone Longere. The house has lots of character and is set in a large garden in a rural location. It is tranquil and peaceful; ideal for a restful break or as a base to tour beautiful Normandy; The Beaches, Towns and Villages and scenery. It is located a few kms from the village of Lonlay L'Abbaye with a bakery, convenience store, pharmacy and bar/tabac, with the medieval abbey at its centre and within a short drive of the pictureque, medieval town of Domfront. The gite has 2 bedrooms, a landing/office area with desk and office chair and there is a large shower room on the first floor The larger of the 2 bedrooms has a double bed and a single bed. The smaller bedroom has a double bed. There is a spacious salon/lounge and large dining-kitchen on the ground floor all set within large gardens with plenty of off-road parking. The house has electric radiators and a wood pellet stove for the cooler months and a heated towel rail in the shower room. The gite is part of a stone longere or long house with its own entrance doors; one to the salon and one to the dining kitchen. The drive is shared with the rest of the Longere as are the gardens but otherwise you will be completely independent. I live next door if you need anything - the ideal situation. The neighbours are quite a distance away - the closest being a micro-brewery , Le Chateau de la Biere. It is within walking distance - about 500 metres. It is a quiet place - no noisy roads or railways nearby. We are in a rural, tranquil location and some sort of vehicle is required unless you are a keen hiker /walker. The roads are great for motorcycling and cycling - quiet with hills and valleys. The views are lovely. It is superb touring country with picturesque villages, chateaux, castles and beautiful countryside. As indicated above, public transport is not really a feasible option. There is a bus service from Lonlay L’Abbaye but the village is a couple of miles away. The roads are uncongested which makes driving and getting around a pleasure. The local roads are ideal motorcycling roads. The entrance to the drive is fairly narrow. I can get my Fiat Ducato based camping car on the drive but anything larger/wider may be an issue. Normal cars are not a problem and there is some secure, undercover parking for bicycles and motorcycles if required. A vehicle of some sort is essential to get around and see the beautiful countryside and historic sites.
