Private Room/Bathroom in Magical 17th Century Hall
Westholme is a family house and we would love you to enjoy it as much as we do. As well as being our home, the Jacobean Hall (1604) is also used as an enchanting location for various creative projects - including a BBC costume drama, music videos and photo shoots. There is a real sense of history here - the room has elements from the late 19thC renovations and Georgina has brought an artists flair to the decor. The Hall interior has remained essentially unchanged for 130 years - although bursting with antiques collected by us. Our garden is private but you will have access to a lovely walk down to our wood and lake - a peaceful place to relax. The bedroom is in a private wing and has its own bathroom across the corridor (no shower). A basic breakfast is included. Access is through the main front door (pictured) and the Great Hall. Rupert and Georgina will be available for help and advice, without intruding. Westholme Hall is an old, traditional house which hasn't been modernised (we feel this is part of its charm) - it may not be for everyone but we hope that for some it is a magical place to stay and look forward to welcoming you soon. Access to dining room for breakfast, your own wing/bedroom, a private bathroom, walking on the farm, access through front door. Rupert and Georgina are available if needed. The incredible medieval Raby Castle and Auckland Castle, Barnard Castle and The Bowes Museum are all on our doorstep. Magnificent walking- The Howgill Hills and Lake District are easily reached. So much to see and explore. The rivers Tees and Greta (Cotman, Turner, Rokeby Park) provide lovely walks and wild swimming. The moors of Teesdale can be truly wild or more gentle in the hidden valleys awash with bluebells in spring. The Raby Arms has a Michelin star and Tan Hill pub is the highest in England. Westholme Hall can be accessed by public transport, the bus stop is at the end of the main drive, and there are frequent buses. The bus Arriva bus X75 runs from Darlington to Barnard Castle and through all the surrounding villages, so is a good way to see the surrounding area. We have a lurcher and two cats who you may cross paths with!
