Umzumbe Surf House - Beach Front Bliss!

This B&B is located in a tropical bush setting with private beach-front, huge yard, access to Umzumbe's stunning blue flagged beach and famous right hand point break. This comfortable, clean, surf inspired house is simplistic and the perfect beach get-away. This is the ultimate beach house. The property itself is what sets the perfect beach get-away mood with views of the Indian Ocean, Banana Palm Tree's, Milkwood tree's and bird life in the yard. Walk a few steps to the beach gate and put you're toes are in the warm sand on your very own private beach. Take your time to unwind on the shaded ocean-front veranda and outdoor lounge with comfortable lounge chairs and sofas. Soak up the sun in the sun tanning chairs. Take a kip or read a good book in one of the hammocks. Surf lessons and surfboard rentals are available daily. Go for a Guided Hike to the Oribi waterfalls with one of our experienced Guides. The large beachfront property is surrounded by natural coastal forest humming with life and grants you direct access to Umzumbe's pristine blue flag beach. Waking-up early has never been easier with the sound of crashing waves on your doorstep. If the surf is mellow, there are plenty of quiet, shady hammocks scattered around the yard, for you to kick up your feet and relax. We share the property with many friendly animals; including the elusive small blue duiker, flamboyant purple lourie and plenty mischievous vervet monkeys. The large property lends itself perfectly to countless activities. Round up a group for volley ball or find your zen taking long walks on the beach. A tranquil, comfortable and natural setting perfectly suited for a group of friends, romantic couple or adventurous family. The Rock Bottom Bistro & Live Music venue is a few steps away offering a stunning menu of fried seafood baskets, wraps, salads and alcoholic beverages. Famous for their weekend live music shows, you won't want to miss their Sunday Funday afternoon gathering for a family friendly live music show. Things you should know: Please note that we run our business as a B&B 90% of the time. On the property we have 2 luxury bungalows that may be booked out by other guests. These guests have their own kitchen, bathroom and braai area so they will not be coming up into the main house (your rental) during your stay. You will just share the property & garden with them. Staff We have 5 Staff members. The Receptionist and Day Manager works in the office daily 8am-4pm. The Surf Instructor & Night Manager lives on the property and is responsible for locking up the house, helping guests whenever needed and taking care of the dogs. Two cleaning ladies who service the house daily who are always happy and willing to assist you with anything you need from 7am-4pm. Our Gardener works every Tuesday and Thursday 7:30-4pm. Sometimes you want to venture out from the property and explore what's going on in the Umzumbe Area. Umzumbe is known for its beach and its surf. But there is also a lot more to do; Umzumbe is situated about 90 km south of Durban accessable from a freeway. In Umzumbe there is a very basic general store, The Rock Bottom Live Music Venue and Restaurant. At the nearby town Hibberdene there are: doctors, chemist, supermarkets, cafés, KFC & other fast-food places, fish and fishing tackle shop, banks, garage and DVD shop. If you don't have transport, there are shuttle services that run from Durban Airport to Umzumbe Surf House for R180 per person. If you need to get to the shops, you can take a taxi-bus for R10 each way. Things you should know: Please note that we run our business as a B&B 90% of the time. Kitchen The Kitchen is a Self-Catering and fully equipped communal kitchen. We advise that you bring groceries with you since we do not have a restaurant on site. There is plenty of fridge space inside our seaside kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped with most necessities, although there is no freezer. Please note we will not be able to accommodate any frozen foods, ice, bait, in our staff freezer since there is no extra space. We do have an ice machine for cold drinks. We have a self service Beverage Fridge for our B&B guests with beer, wine and cold drinks. You are welcome to run a tab and pay for these beverages at check out. If you do not want to use it, please let us know we can lock it. Lavatories/Restrooms All restrooms are shared amongst the house but serviced daily and kept impeccably clean. The Toilets are located next to the Double Rooms providing convenience since we do not have an en-suite room option. The only en-suite options are the Bungalows. Amenities The rooms are serviced daily, beds are made with white linens and bath towels. Beach Towels are available on request. Wifi is Free. We have a communal Braai and Fire Pit. (Please bring your own charcoal) Laundry service is available for R50 per load. Wash, dry and fold. There is of-street, secure parking and private access to the beach. Large Camping Trailers are permitted. There is ample space to hang out around the house; inside the common areas, the outside lounge, the big yoga deck, patio, hammocks or lawn. Pets We have 2 medium sized dogs that have grown up on the property around our B&B atmosphere all their lives. They are very friendly and love kids. We ask you please not to feed the dogs as they have gotten sick in the past from guests feeding them things. If the dogs are poisoned by something they have been fed, we will invoice the vet bill to you. If you have pets you would like to bring, you will need to contact us to discuss that in advance. Surfing Lessons & Rentals We offer Surf Lessons and Surfboard rentals at a daily Rate. Surf Lessons are 1 hour and includes all equipment. Surfboard rentals are per day only and dependent on current surf conditions. Surf Lesson - One Person is R350 p.p. Surf Lesson - Two Persons or more R300 p.p. Softtop Beginner Surfboard Rental R150/day Hardtop Advanced Surfboard Rental R200/day Yoga Classes There is a local Yoga Studio at Mantis & Moon which is a short walk from the Surf House. Check with staff for Yoga Class times. Yoga is normally R100 per class, price varies with different teachers. Activities & Day Tours There are many things to do in the surrounding area outside of Umzumbe. Umzumbe Village Tour, The Oribi Gorge, The Hargy Bargy Booze Cruise, Mountain Biking,Golf, Zip Line, Bungee Swing, Hiking to Waterfalls, Go Carts, Water park, Live Music, Fishing Charters, Snake Park, Crocodile Farm, Coffee Farm, Shopping Mall and more. Ask us if you would like to book any local activities. Extras You can pay for any activities or extras via Credit card or Cash at morning of check out.
