Croft Head Barn in Hope Valley
The barn is entirely self contained, but attached to Croft Head, our lovely stone house in Aston, one mile from the village of Hope, with superb southerly views. It consists of a double bedroom, large sitting room, kitchen and shower room. Bed linen and towels are provided. The barn is probably 19th century and is attached to our house. It has recently been converted into living space, comprising a large sitting room with wood burning stove (wood provided), double bedroom and shower room on the first floor and a kitchen and hall on the ground floor. We use the accommodation at times for our own family but not when we have guests. There is a 43 inch 'smart' television & DVD player in the sitting room and Wi-fi access in the barn. The wood burner is very efficient (wood provided) but there is also gas central heating. There is ample parking space. The old beams give it character, but be aware that they are lower than the top of tall people's heads! Guests will have access to all the rooms in the accommodation. The kitchen has an electric oven and induction hob, microwave, fridge and storage space, ideal for guests who wish to cook for themselves. We are generally friendly people who enjoy company and hope to offer a warm welcome to guests. We would hope to be at home and available to answer questions and give information about the local area and walking possibilities. Where possible we would be happy to collect from the station on the first evening when guests are arriving on public transport. We are lucky enough to live in the beautiful Peak District and our south facing house is situated just under Win Hill and has superb views over to Abney Moor to the south. The area is ideal for walking and there are many well signposted footpaths of varying lengths in the Valley. Other outdoor activities such as cycling and hang gliding are also available locally and there is an outdoor swimming pool at Hathersage. The area is rich in history, with numerous caverns in Castleton, the Plague Village of Eyam and the stately homes of Chatsworth and Haddon nearby. The cities of Sheffield and Manchester are both within reach by car or public transport and offer cinema, theatre, concerts and museums. The smaller market town of Bakewell is also nearby. Hope itself has a small SPAR supermarket, a delicatessen and farm shop which sells good local meat. Our home has good public transport connections. We live near to Hope station, 10 minutes by footpath or 20 minutes on the lane from where there are trains to Sheffield and Manchester during the day, less frequent in the evening, with the last train from Sheffield being at 10.46 pm. There is also an hourly bus service to Sheffield which links to Castleton. We can only accept bookings that are consistent with the Government's coronavirus travel restrictions as they apply at the time of the stay. As well as following the AirBnB enhanced cleaning protocol, we are currently asking guests for full contact details (postal address and email) when they arrive, and for a commitment to let us know should they fall ill within three days of leaving us (which might indicate that they had been infectious when staying here), so that we can take appropriate measures. We are also asking guests to strip the bed and put bedding and towels into bags so that they can be put straight into the washing machine with minimal handling. When the barn is not let, we use the sitting room where we keep some books, DVDs and CDs and may wish to come into the sitting room to retrieve them during your stay. Guests are welcome to borrow these, but are requested to return them to their cases and shelves! A hair dryer is provided. Off season (Nov - March) discounts for third and subsequent nights available - please enquire.
