A Family vacation at Bruton Cottage

Bruton cottage overlooks Shuswap lake in the quiet, relaxing countryside! Come to enjoy nature and the lake nearby. The cottage, one Great Room, is functionally divided for sleeping, cooking and eating with an outdoor rainwater shower and wood stove. It's a rustic, relaxing atmosphere to refresh you from the city. Our acreage is called Friedensfeld West. Friedensfeld is a German word meaning Field of Peace, and perfectly describes our property. The cottage is called Bruton, after the boarding house my husband attended in Kodaikanal, India. Guests have access to the entire outdoor property and yard games like bocce ball and croquet. There is a log playhouse for the children and a rustic golf course just for fun. A swingset with slide and lookout platform, plus a saucer swing for the little ones will add to the fun and keep the kids occupied for hours. We recently added a 15-ft trampoline with protective netting. I try to be available for questions or solve problems, but otherwise I like to give my guests as much privacy as they desire. Our house and Bruton cottage are in close proximity, so you will see us as we work in the yard and do our thing. I love the Shuswap area! The people here are friendly and very giving. The scenery is gorgeous and our area is quiet and peaceful. There are lots of trails to explore and the beautiful clear Shuswap lake for swimming, kayaking, canoeing and of course skiing and boating. Lake access is available from wild rose bay park (walking distance) or Shannon beach (5 minute drive). There is a boat launch just 2 minute drive away. We are located about 30 minutes off the highway, so it's imperative to have your own transportation. (We aren't able to offer shuttle service from the airport or bus. Sorry.) Safety note: our acreage is small, but even on a small acreage there are natural hazards that can be present. We have made every effort to have things safe and secure. However, we expect you to be responsible for your own safety and the safety of your children by supervising their behaviour, being aware of potential hazards and so on. Use all the equipment and roam all the spaces at your own risk. But use normal caution: We want this to be a happy experience for you. We also have a canoe you may borrow, located nearby at a friend's waterfront property. Just ask, and we will show you the location and give you the paddles. Some life jackets are available. (One large, two medium and one child's size.) Toilet facilities: Bruton cottage has a water-less Eco-friendly toilet designed with a fan and French drain to be completely odor-free. (URL HIDDEN) Alternatively, there is an outhouse nearby. An outdoor rainwater shower with hot and cold water is located behind the cottage. You can look out over the lake as you shampoo your hair! In July the raspberries ripen. If you are here during raspberry season, you can pick and eat to your hearts content. You can even fill a small container and take some home with you. In late August there are blackberries to enjoy. As our fruit trees mature there will be plums and pears in season as well.
