In the heart of glorious West Sussex, at the top of a hill, tucked away on our 13 acre farm lie our three charming and rustic luxury self-catering retreats. This is the 2 bedroom Bothy. Whether you are in need of a restful weekend retreat or a short vacation this is a perfect place to stay in comfort and style. Relax on the farm, or pick up the country trail right outside your front door and venture out. The vineyards, beaches, pubs and the glorious South Downs National Park await you. As you enter the oak clad Bothy you are greeted by colour, comfort and an array of mod cons. The wonderfully comfortable Ercol sofa is surrounded by 3 equally comfy chairs all donned with an array of bright colours cushions. Relax in front of the TV, connected up to Amazon, Netflix, Youtube, BBC and more. Or light up the wood burning stove, throw on some logs and let the flames enchant and warm you. Or spoil yourself and do both! If you’re feeling a little peckish then step into the shockingly well equipped kitchen – microwave, induction hob, oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, toaster, kettle and full complement of crockery, glassware and cutlery. It’s all there. Dine at the beautifully painted kitchen table – every chair is a different classic colour and it all comes together to in technicolour harmony. An oak door leads to a delightful cloakroom with rich blue tiled floor, vessel basin onto of a rustic table with hand painted legs in teal (it’s actually Vardo - one of those fancy named paints from Farrell and Ball!). Above the toilet hangs a cupboard of bit and bobs including some the Tetley Tea folk! Behind another oak door you will find the games cupboard with a collection to entertain for friends and family. Its big cupboard so useful storage space for those travel bags as well. Heading up the oak staircase you enter into a world of elegantly curved oak beams and vaulted ceilings in the landing and bedrooms. The first bedroom with its eclectic mix of old and new. From stripped back oak floor boards with divine underfloor heating to a 50 year old Ercol arm chair clad in divinely soft sheepskin to the centrepiece of the antique double hand painted in Vardo this is the perfect place to recuperate after a day in the great outdoors. The second bedroom beckons you with its star hanging up high. Either side of a lovely antique table lie simply wonderfully single beds. A sliding (and even soft closing and opening) oak door leads to the enticing shower to invigorate yourself. An antique pine cupboards and shelves give you all the space you need to store all your bathing and beautifying bits and bobs. Head back down and out of front door onto your courtyard where you can breakfast, lunch or dine or fire up a BBQ for some flamed grilled delights. Just around the corner don’t be surprised if Nellie and Maggie, our two shaggy Shetlands ponies, aren’t up at the gate some 20ft away beckoning you to come over and visit with a cheeky carrot or three. Every bit of floor, upstairs and downstairs has underfloor heating – even the understair cupboard just in case you want to stay warm whilst hiding there playing Hide and Seek! For the eco warriors amongst you will love the solar panels, eco flush toilets, recycle bin and double glazing throughout, high spec insulation and air tested to the most demanding regs and external power points to enable you to charge up your electric car. Across the courtyard within one of our barns you will find a laundry room with washing machine and dryers. There is also a recreational space including a Bonzini football table that came out of a Parisian café some 15 years ago. Enjoy! Some spare wellies and coats are available here in case you forgot to bring some. It goes without saying all heating and hot water is provided together with linen and super soft towels. Mingle with your fellow AirBnB’ers – there is an equally luxurious cottage next to yours - or do your own thing and venture out and explore glorious West Sussex. You have direct access to footpaths and bridleways which take you through our farm and out into the beautiful countryside beyond. As you venture out of the farm you will notice our ponies. We run a private stud where we breed native ponies. If you are lucky you may even see a foal! As well as our ponies we have 5 dogs and 4 farm cats so a lot going on around the Bothy. You will be staying on our farm so we are just a stone throw away in farmhouse if you need anything. Also if there is anything we can do, prior to your arrival, to make your stay more comfortable and extra special for you, please do let us know. Are you celebrating a special occasion? We are very sorry but, for the comfort of our five dogs, other pets are not permitted at this property. Two miles away is the pretty village of Billingshurst with its church, pub and Sainsbury. It also has a wonderful cosy Thai place, two Indian restaurants and our favourite Chinese Takeaway – the Oriental Express. Catch a train from Billingshurst for a day trip to London. The journey takes just over an hour. Alternatively, Horsham is about 20 minutes away by car with a Waitrose, John Lewis, Sainsburys and wonderful collection of shops, cafes and restaurants as well as it vibrant market every Thursday and Saturday with local produce, street food and live music. Well worth a visit. For your ales and wines visit nearby Hepworth Brewery serving traditional West Sussex craft beers and ales or Nyetimber and Nutbourne Vineyards for wine tours and a tastings. For heights venture up Blackdown Hill near Petworth for the highest point in West Sussex or our personally favourite Leith Hill for the highest point in South-East England. Children will love the nearby Fishers Farm Park with horse and tractor rides, the most friendly farm animals, adventure playground, indoor soft play area, theatre shows and cafe. Our children spent many many joyful days here. Places to visit include Arundel for its magnificent castle, the fine Elizabethan Parham House, 'Glorious' Goodwood for its exhilarating racing days, and Bignor Roman Villa for its stunning mosaic floors. Then there is the historic National Trust Petworth House and Gardens surrounded by so many antique shops. 30 minutes away you drop into the wonderfully bohemian Brighton. Spend hours wondering the narrow North Laines crammed with its quirky, diverse and sometimes quite ridiculous shops, stopping at its many independent coffee shops or our personally favourite Fatto a Mano for the freshest pizzas in town. Wonder down to the pier or drum up the courage to take a ride 531ft up the world’s tallest moving observation tower for breath-taking views across Brighton, the South Downs and the English Channel. Don’t make the mistake of heading straight back from Brighton. As you leave head up into Devil’s Dyke. It’s not at all devilish but one of the most breathtakingly spots in the South Downs – you are on top of a 100m deep V-shaped valley with the most stunning views in all directions. Catch the action of nutty hand gliders as they launch themselves of this spot. For beaches Brighton is wonderfully vibrant though stony. Head over to West Wittering for the most delicious Blue Flag sandy beach, glorious sand dunes, and beach café. Then head home through the pretty cathedral city of Chichester. So much to do, so little time. Don’t rush it. Relax, enjoy and just come back for more. To safeguard our guest we adhere strictly to the Covid-19 cleaning regime.
