Quaint and rustic 3-bed 18th Century cottage in the heart of the historic village of Hambledon, Hampshire. Situated in the South Downs National Park and in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The 11th Century church, village shop, pub, vineyard and unspoilt countryside are all within 5 minutes on foot from the doorstep. The beaches of Hayling Island and the ancient New Forest are a 30-minute and 40-minute drive respectively. The historic cities of Portsmouth and Southampton are also close by. The cottage is one of character, and has original beams in every room as well as an inglenook fireplace. It has 18th century charm, but is decorated with sympathetic modern soft furnishings. It has all the modern conveniences one would expect - wifi, fully equipped kitchen, Internet TV etc. The cottage is suited to all seasons. It has a secure, walled courtyard garden - the end of which gets full sun all day. It’s perfect for eating outside - or for having drinks in the evening. In the Autumn and winter, the cottage is ideal for spending cosy evenings in front of the wood-burning stove. The village has a well-stocked shop and a local pub which serves excellent food. Hambledon Vineyard is less than a 5-minute walk from the cottage, and a visit to their website will inform you of the many events held there - from tastings to concerts. Hambledon is known as the Cradle of Cricket, and the historic 18th century ground is a 3 mile walk from the cottage. The Bat and Ball pub sits opposite the ground. The River Meon runs through the valley and there are shallow areas in the neighbouring villages and of Droxford and Soberton which are ideal for a picnic and a paddle. The cottage backs onto the church, so it is possible to walk through the churchyard and head off into the fields and walk for miles without encountering any traffic. Hearing the ring of church bells on a Sunday morning is also a wonderful experience. I live in the neighbouring village and visit Hambledon regularly. I am nearby, so I’m able to assist quests swiftly if need be. Hambledon is a quintessential English village. It retains its ‘chocolate box’ charm, but is a thriving and vibrant community
