Le Prieuré and its private forest
Built in the 17th century, Le Prieuré has been scrupulously restored and furnished in 2017. In the heart of the picturesque village of Louvagny (63 inhabitants, Calvados / Normandy), Le Prieuré is surrounded by a large inside courtyard and a 3000 sqm fenced garden that leads directly to its private 20 hectares forest, la Forêt de Louvagny. The whole property is exclusively reserved for your stay. Le Prieuré is an individual house, scrupulously restored, recently renovated and furnished, with courtyard and garden, and a panoramic view on pastures, fields and woods. Located in the heart of the village of Louvagy, its natural stone fenced garden gives free, direct and exclusive access to the forest. With its 90 sqm, on two floors, the accommodation is spacious, bright and comfortable. It contains: - Groundfloor : a large living room with chimney (open fire), lounge area and dining room area, modern and fully equipped kitchen, bathroom with shower and separate toilet, an additional room (sofa-bed), with access to the garden. - First floor: a masterbedroom with double bed (140 x 200 cm), a bedroom with bunkbeds (90 x 200 cm), a bathroom with king size shower, double sink and toilet. The property, surrounded by its annex buildings (garage, wood storage…), provides through its typical architecture an exclusive and authentic universe of unique luminosity, specific to Normandy. Like an autonomous hamlet inside the village! You have access to the house, the garden, the courtyard, and to the forest (except few days during hunting season). Le Prieuré is situated in the heart of the village of Louvagny - 63 inhabitants – which distinguishes in the region for its 17th century castle, which history is intimately linked to the Counts of Beaurepaire de Louvagny, which have served France with distinction under all kings, from Phillip the 5th to Louis 18th, under the emperors Napoleon the 1st and Napoleon the 3rd; as well as under the Republic. Actually, the old Lordship of Louvagny, the Pastures, the fields and woods around the Castle are owned since feudalistic times to the descendants of this same family. It has never been sold, only the name of the owners changed due to weddings. The Castle itself is situated on 100 hectares of Land, entirely fenced by walls, with remains of the drawbridge (listed monument – a big part of the castle moat have been filled in (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) ), and its lordship Chapel, also listed historical monument. This Chapel can be visited on demand. Louvagny is located 8km from Saint Pierre-sur-Dives, which distinguishes through its Halls of the 11th century, part of the medieval Normand heritage, and welcomes a big countryside market: fresh bread, fish, meat, living animals, fruit and vegetables… 15 km away, Falaise is a medieval city, overlooked by its 10th century castle, place of birth of William the Conqueror, and more recently known for its violent liberation fights, in the “Falaise Pocket” in august 1944. Every Saturday, the city center receives its traditional market. Louvagny is situated : - 7,4 km from Vendeuvre : Castle, jewel of Normandy. In its museum, the first collection in the world of miniature furniture. In the Castle, daily life in the 11th century, very nice furniture. In the garden, surprise water jets, labyrinth…; - 21 km of Crèvecoeur (Castle, A unique example that has been miraculously preserved) - 45 km of Caen: Memorial of Caen, dedicated to the 20th century – WWII and the invasion of Normany - Abbeys, Castle of Caen…; - 50 km of Deauville: Beaches, Grand Casino, Palaces, Golf courts, Horse races and American movie festival; - 60 km of the invasion beaches: Juno Beach, and a little further, Omaha beach; - 65 km of Honfleur : old Port surrounded by authentic 16th an 18th century houses. - 72 km of Bayeux: ancient medieval city, Bayeux tapestry. -150 km of Mont Saint Michel. The cleaning fee includes household linen and towels. Dogs are very welcome, with some specificities - There is an extra 20€ fee / dog / stay (adjusted for longer stays 20€/week). - Inside, dogs are only alowed downstairs, and forbidden to climb on the furniture. Please be carefull with furniture, particularly if raining outside, after a walk in the forest. - Outside, dogs are allowed everywhere on the property. Please always pick up their poop to avoid others to step in it. - for stays of 2 weeks or more, we ask for an extra cleaning (60€). - In the autumn / winter months (1er oct - 31 march), we ask for a contribution to heating of 30€ / stay. (adjusted for longer stays 5€/day). - We can provide wood for the chimney, for 10€ / stay (adjusted for longer stays 10€ / week). - electric vehicles can be loaded on the electrical plug in the garage. To cover the costs, with an average price of 0,16€ / KWh and a battery of 10KW we ask 1,6€ / day in case of daily battery charging (=11,2€/ week).
