Idyllic Country Escape-Cattal Train Station 1 mile
Welcome to Horbutt Barn, a cosy and completely self-contained Grade II listed space ideal for couples, located at the end of a quiet lane in an idyllic rural spot. The brick-built barn is detached from the main house guaranteeing privacy in a mature garden setting. We are just 20 minutes from York and Harrogate by car or train, and 45 minutes to Leeds. The pretty market town of Wetherby is 5 minutes' drive by car, with the A1(M) motorway a similar distance. The barn is over two levels, with the upstairs accessed by a set of return stairs. The bed upstairs is a double equipped with memory foam mattress and Tempur Cloud pillows for a great night's sleep, along with White Company bed linen and fluffy towels. We can supply a travel cot with mattress / bedding, high chair, baby bath and baby cutlery if you are travelling with little ones too. The shower room is equipped with a vanity unit and hot water is supplied internally: the hot water downstairs comes from the main house and so it may take a little time to warm up. Downstairs the property is equipped with free wi-fi, TV, DVD player, fridge, hob, combi-microwave oven and fully-equipped kitchen. There is a also a Nespresso machine with complimentary capsules for those (like me) that need a regular caffeine fix. The TV is fully tuned with a range of freeview channels in addition to some board games and quizzes. There is a farmhouse table that comfortably seats 4, and a sofabed that is suitable for little people. We can supply additional bedding on request if you would like to rent the property for 4 rather than 2-just get in touch when booking and let us know. There is underfloor heating in the barn to keep things cosy! Parking is on the right immediately inside the gate to the grounds of Horbutt House. Horbutt Barn is situated in the grounds of Horbutt House, on the left-hand side at the end of Chapel Street. Access is through the gate to the house. There is a small parking space outside the front of the barn, or guests may prefer to park further down the lane outside Axholme Farm. The Barn is completely detached from the house with its own access and a master safe for the key, so you are free to check-in and come and go as you please! We can be of as much help as needed but privacy is guaranteed. We're spoilt with our location at very end of a quiet lane on the River Nidd, close to an area of Special Scientific Interest which is just a stone's throw away, and perfect for an evening stroll. Depending on the time of year you visit, there is also the possibility of an abundance of apples and plums from the orchard which will make an appearance in the fruitbowl! The North York Moors are just 12 miles distant with the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty even closer. The Yorkshire Dales National Park is also within easy driving distance, as are the picturesque North Yorkshire towns of Easingwold and Boroughbridge. There are historic buildings, abbeys, castles and stately homes in abundance as well as the great Yorkshire outdoors to explore. Cyclists will find some testing climbs and sweeping descents on the Moors and hills nearby. The Black Swan at Oldstead is only 40 minutes through the lanes by car, and has recently been voted the best restaurant in the world by TripAdvisor (URL HIDDEN) We're a mile from the train station at Cattal where there is also a great pub and trains to York (20 min), Harrogate (25 min) and Leeds (45 min). The trains run more frequently in the mornings but after that are roughly hourly. Further details can be found at the National Rail Enquiries website. The A1(M) is 3 miles away by road giving access north to the North York Moors National Park, the Yorkshire Dales, or west towards the Pennines. Unfortunately there is no bus service through Cattal but the lanes are very quiet so perfect for cycling! Leeds is 40 minutes by car, whilst Harrogate and York are 20/25 minutes drive.
