The ground floor of our long cottage is a completely self-contained holiday let, lovingly restored it retains many of the original features - wooden beams, curvy walls and a log burner in a huge fire place. Views from the front of the cottage show you the incredible walking, running, biking and paragliding to be had from the doorstep. Castleton has it all, pubs, cafes and caves! Our quiet location out of the busy hub gives you the best of both worlds We think this space is the ideal venue for walkers, cyclists or climbers looking for a peaceful and well equipped spacious place to indulge in their favourite activities. There is enough space for you to be able to bring all your kit in and spread out. Your hosts are both climbers and runners and we are always happy to chat about what you might want to plan to do whilst you are here. We have been very mindful of the need for scrupulous cleaning and so our place is clutter free and pared down. There is very little dust- collecting ornamental stuff in the holiday let so you are free to add your own wild flowers and bottles of wine as decor! Guests access and have for themselves the whole of the downstairs or lower half of the cottage which is completely self contained and sound proofed. Please note that the upper garden area is private and not part of the Airbnb let. This way we maintain a sense of privacy for ourselves and also for our guests, we will not impinge on the patio space whatsoever- and always respect your privacy if you are out on the lower patio. You have exclusive use of the sunny lower patio which you access from the back door (with BBQ , chiminea and table and chairs) the outside area is lit ( for night time )and provides a pretty and sunny outdoor space for you to enjoy your morning coffee or a glass of post walk wine! I've lived in and around the Peak District for the past 30 years so if guests need information on activities or any aspect of what is available I am more than happy to help. We have a library of maps and books for guest use. Our road is more of a lane! It has no pavement and was the old droving road from Hope into Castleton. We think, from what we can gather that the cottage was a black smiths - hence the enormously thick wall housing the fireplace . We do know that the area where the bathroom and bedroom now sit was once a byre or cattle shed, the remains of the old roof can be seen on the outside of the adjoining wall. The houses along our road are limestone built cottages and our road is a less busy place than other areas of the village meaning you can escape the tourist crowds in Summer and forget they are there! There is a train station in Hope 2.3 miles away ( 45 mins walk) which is a main line into Sheffield ( toward London) and Edale ( towards Manchester.) Trains run approximately every hour. It is a good way of leaving the car behind and getting to the Edale Valley for a whole day's walk There is a frequent bus service from the main bus station near the post-office and bakers. The buses here travel into Sheffield via all of the other Hope Valley villages. Nearby villages worth checking out for walks/ bike rides and local history can be accessed without a car! To name a few.... Hathersage, Bradwell, Eyam and Bamford. Contactless payment and Wifi is available on these buses. There is also a good local taxi firm - Penny's taxis - to pick you up from the station or to take you further afield if you come on the train.
