The studio apartment is located in Apollonas, a whitewashed village on Naxos’s northeastern coast about 36km from the island's capital (Naxos town or Chora). The studio apartment is right next to the Apollonas promenade, where you can find traditional tavernas, cafés and a mini-market. The main beach of the village is right at your doorstep and the wild beach of Apollonas, Aformous, just some minutes away on foot. The sea view studio can host up to 2 guests. It consists of a big room with a bed, closet and kitchen, a bathroom, as well as a balcony and a veranda. The kitchen is equipped with a refrigerator and a stove as well as pots and utensils, so that the guests are able to cook throughout their stay. The whole studio apartment is available to the guests. Nikos or Andriana will be available to assist you on the spot in Greek and Kyriaki will be available by phone in Greek, English and German. The lovely fishing village of Apollonas is located in the northern side of the island, 36 km from the island's capital. The main beach is divided naturally into two areas - the first a beautiful sandy beach and the other a pebbled beach. Both are stunningly beautiful, the water is clean, the waves sometimes calm and sometimes rough depending on the wind. The village of Apollonas itself is charming, quaint, with traditional Aegean tavernas serving locally caught fresh fish, spit roasted lamb and goat, traditional Greek cuisine prepared from locally grown delicious organic ingredients. You can relax with an icy cold frappe at one of the local cafes to escape the hot sun, or just work on your tan and cool off in the water! The beach is not organised, however there are free showers and dressing rooms available. Just a few minutes away from the main beach, heading uphill, you will find the wild beach of Apollonas, called Aformous. The pebble beach stretching in front of the Aegean, isolated from the tourist buzz, is great for a calm and relaxing time. Take some drinks and a snack with you and enjoy some hours of calmness, reading a book, swimming or just watching and listening the sea. The tamarix trees ("Armiriki" in Greek) are there to provide shade from the summer sun. The beach is great for snorkelling, as there you can explore the rich flora and fauna of the sea-bottom. Apollonas is quite close (by car or on foot) to the famous ancient Kouros statue, which is worth a visit if you are in the area. The beautiful statue of Kouros, which lies on an unpaved road above the village, is a half-finished statue of 10.5 metres, dating back to the 6th century BC. It is believed, by many archaeologists, to represent the god Dionysus. The Kouros of Apollonas remains in an ancient marble quarry, which is one of the oldest quarries in Greece. Getting around by bus Local transportation on Naxos is very regular, especially during the tourist season. There are plenty of places you can get to using the buses provided by the municipality. For many visitors, this is a great opportunity to get to know the island and its road network first, before deciding to rent a car or other type of vehicle. The KTEL (as it is referred to in Greece), is the acronym for the country’s city-to-city public transport bus and depot network. On Naxos, the KTEL (or local bus network) headquarters is located just a few metres from the main port. There visitors can pick up a copy of the daily and weekend scheduled timetable of service to several destinations on Naxos. In the summer time and until the end of October, the following timetable from and to Apollonas is available: - From Naxos Town to Apollonas, over the mainland through the villages (~2 hours) Starting every day at 09:30 and 13:30 - From Apollonas to Naxos Town, over the mainland through the villages (~2 hours) Starting every day at 06:50 and 15:30 The most actual KTEL timetable you can always find on naxosdestinations. Getting around by car A visit to Naxos is not complete without exploring the magnificent hinterland and villages that dot the countryside. Each village is a microcosm separate, different architecture, different customs and culinary traditions. The most efficient and comfortable way to visit the island is to rent a car and explore the streets of the island. On many roads that lead to the villages of Naxos, you can follow hiking trails through green and fertile valleys, hills and gorges with streams, waterfalls and lush vegetation. Other roads flow beside the coastline of the island, passing by small taverns, golden beaches and small white churches that face the sea. Others stop at important archaeological sites, museums and monuments, as well as byzantine churches , monasteries and medieval towers. From Apollonas, it’s a pleasant drive back to Naxos town along the North coast of the island. There are some steep drops and fantastic sea views, but roads are in good condition, so sit back and enjoy the ride. Parking Limited parking is available for free near the small port of Apollonas.
