Why not visit Battle Abbey and Battlefield, and if you visit in October, you’ll catch the annual battle re-enactment. See Rudyard Kipling’s home ’Bateman’s’ in Burwash, the moated Bodiam Castle, Great Dixter House and Gardens and Scotney Castle, with 770-acres of gardens and woodland, all available close by. Take a boat trip along the River Rother at Newenden, or a steam train journey through the glorious rolling countryside on the Kent and East Sussex Steam Railway. The area is also rich in vineyards, so you must try some of the delicious English wines at Chapel Down, organic wines at Sedlescombe and Carr Taylor vineyards in Westfield. The seaside resort of Hastings and the sand dunes at Camber make for enjoyable days out. Beach 9½ miles. Shop 1¾ miles, pub and restaurant 1½ miles. contactable between 8am and 6pm Public transport is very limited, you will require a car to get around.
