Lovely quiet, cosy cottage with sea views
Morgelyn Cottage is a lovely, recently renovated, comfortable and cosy, former Cornish Miner's cottage in a quiet village setting. The cottage is located in the heart of magical west Cornwall (Poldark territory!) close to the Coastal path. There are spectacular sea views from the cottage. At night time you can see the light from Pendeen lighthouse, stars and the twinkling lights of the local fishing boats. Dogs are welcome, there is wifi & off road parking at the front of the cottage. The cottage is perfectly situated to explore the beautiful area of Penwith. The Minack Theatre, St.Ives, Lands End, Penzance, Mousehole, St. Michael's Mount and the beaches of Porthcurno, Sennen and Gwynver are less than 10 miles away. The cottage is a short distance from the coastal footpath. There are numerous walks which you can explore the iconic cliff top mines such as Poldark's Wheel Leisure and Crown Mines, as well as paths that take you through the wild untamed country side and moors, past neolithic sites. Morgelyn comfortably accommodates 4 people. The cottage maintains many of its original features including a large inglenook fireplace, exposed wooden beams and characterful stone walls. The warm and cosy sitting room has a wood burner, Smart TV, DVD and selection of board games. The cottage has a modern well equipped kitchen enabling you to enjoy home cooked meals. There is a dishwasher electric oven, hob, microwave, fridge, freezer and ample cookware. The good sized dining table comfortably sits all guests and from which you can enjoy the sea views. There are two double bedrooms, one which has a vaulted beamed ceiling, the other has sea views. The Super King bed can be converted into two single beds. There is a third smaller room which can be used either as a nursery, study, dressing room or bedroom for an extra guest (please contact me before booking if you are wanting an extra guest). The bathroom has a bath, shower over the bath, underfloor heating and heated towel rail. Conveniently there is an additional downstairs loo. To the front of the house is a porch that catches the sun throughout the day and is a lovely spot to read and have a cup of tea. The cottage has its own enclosed private front and back garden. There is space to store bikes and surf boards. The village has a strong local and friendly community. A short walking distance from the cottage is a local village shop, a CAMRA award winning pub serving home cooked food, a fish and chip shop, a Brazilian Tapas and Meadery. The cottage has its own off road car parking space which can fit two cars. You can easily walk to the well stocked village shop and pubs. There is a bus stop 5 min walk away which goes to Penzance Train station and St Just. During peak holiday months there is an open deck tourist bus which goes to St. Ives, Lands End, Porthcurno. Guests are left alone to relax and enjoy the cottage. West Cornwall (Penwith) is renowned for its wild, untamed, open countryside, unspoilt coastal views, ancient historical sites, clifftop mines and Poldark. You will quickly discover why the area has been designated an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' and is on the list of UN World Heritage Sites. If days at the beach are on your holiday plan then you are well placed, as the area offers several beautiful clean and sandy beaches. Choose from the quiet secluded Portheras Cove and Boat Cove (closest beaches to the cottage and dog friendly all year round) or explore Porthcurno, Lamorna and Penberth cove. A short drive away is Sennen beach (voted by Conde Nast as one of UK's best beaches) and Gwynver which are great surf spots. Another family friendly beach is Marazion which overlooks St.Michael's Mount. There is a strong local mining heritage. Geevor Tin Mine is located in the village and provides you with the opportunity to visit a real mine and discover what life was like for a Cornish miner. The coastline near the cottage has many old mine stacks and engine houses nestled into its cliffs. Botallack, Levant, and Wheel Owles mines are all close by, these were used as the film locations for the Poldark TV series. There is a thriving art scene in the area. Newlyn art gallery, Tate St. Ives, Barbara Hepworth Museum, Leach Pottery, Penlee House Gallery and the Kurt Jackson Foundation Gallery are a short drive away. St.Just, Penzance and St.Ives have many lovely art shops to explore. St. Michael's Mount is one of Cornwall's most iconic images. You can walk across the causeway at low tide and catch a ferry at high tide. St. Ives is famous for its art scene, cobbled winding streets, cafes and sea side bays. The drive along the coast from Pendeen to St.Ives is stunning. The Minack Theatre is an amazing clifftop outdoor theatre overlooking Porthcurno beach and its azure blue seas. During the summer months there are nightly performances. The area has an astonishing collection of ancient sites, some of which pre-date Stonehenge. Men-an-Tol, Lanyon Quoit, Boscaswen-un and Chysauster are some of the nearby sites. Penwith has a thriving food scene with lots of farmers markets and lots of really good restaurants and bars in some stunning locations. A car is recommended but it is possible to explore the area by public transport. The nearest train station is Penzance. There is a direct train from London Paddington to Penzance that takes around 5 hours. The Night Riviera Sleeper Train operates 6 nights a week, departing London Paddington at 23:45 and arriving into Penzance at 07:53. There is a local bus that goes from outside the train station to Pendeen, the bus stop is 2 minutes from the cottage. In the summer months there is a direct coastal bus which goes from Pendeen to St Ives and Lands End. The main airport is Newquay, there are daily direct flights to London Heathrow and Dublin Ireland. Lands end airport is close by which has flights to the Scilly Isles. Hire cars can be arranged in advance from Newquay airport and Penzance train station. Please note this is a traditional Cornish cottage and as is often common with old cottages, the ceiling height and doorway height on the ground floor is lower than in modern properties (the ceiling height upstairs is higher!). The internal staircase is fairly steep, narrow and does not have a handrail. There are 4 steps from the parking area to the front door. For those of you with agile and inquisitive dogs supervision may be required in the back garden. Although the back garden is enclosed the wall is not very high, and behind the wall is an exciting open field with rabbits and cows! Check in and check out times may need to be revised from those stated on the booking listing depending on COVID cleaning requirements. Also note that as per COVID cleaning protocol to protect cleaners and laundry staff, guests are required to strip their beds and place them in the laundry bags provided. Please be mindful of these when deciding if the property is suitable for you when booking.
