FIRST FLOOR double room, village location
We are Bill & Elaine - a working professional couple - who first discovered Airbnb while travelling in 2012, having taken some time out from the rat race. Since returning we have always used the site as our preferred accommodation source in both the UK and Australia. This is a safe space; all races, religions and genders welcome. We want you to enjoy your stay here at Hillrise and hope that you will just ask us if there is anything we can do to make you more comfortable. The room is on the first floor and has a comfortable king size bed and tea/coffee making facilities. The (sole use) bathroom - with bath and shower - is just across the landing (very close). A selection of toiletries are provided. Breakfast can be whatever and whenever you want it to be – within reason! From full English with eggs from our own chickens, fresh local produce and home-made bread, to fresh fruit, cereals and toast – give us notice if you have any particular desires and we’ll do our best. It is served in the dining room / guest lounge with a picture window overlooking the front garden or - if the weather is on our side - the rear patio in our colourful garden with views of nearby Badby Woods. Apart from the guest room, we are pleased to offer you exclusive use of the lounge / dining room where you are welcome to relax and watch TV - or catch up with some work - we have unlimited free wifi and the dining table doubles up as a convenient 'hot desk'. In the cold winter months we will light you a crackling log fire to make you feel even more comfortable (and warm!). We will usually be around and are happy to help you out with anything if we can. If you are attending one of the local wedding venues, eg Dodmoor House, Dodford Manor, Skylark Fields Farm, Fawsley Hall or Crockwell Farm (to name but a few) we will be happy to drive you (but you will need to book a taxi for your return journey). Newnham is a tranquil archetypal English village, surrounded by beautiful countryside and scenic far reaching views. Daventry is the nearest market town, just a couple of miles away, but with a selection of shops to cater for most day to day requirements. Our website will give you a good idea of our location and proximity to local places of interest such as Silverstone, National Trust properties, a variety of prestigious wedding venues and a wide selection of local pubs, gastro pubs and restaurants to suit most tastes! Our village pub, The Romer Arms, is owned and run by a Portuguese family - 'Maria's Kitchen' - and their reputation for fresh home cooked and imaginative Mediterranean dishes is escalating on an almost daily basis! If you want to venture a little further afield (a mile and a half) then you could try The Maltsters in the neighbouring village of Badby - this pub also has a growing reputation for culinary excellence (and not at silly prices) and is owned by Merlin, the maker of exotic cocktails, on Channel 4’s 'First Dates' - how cool is that! :) Newnham does not have a bus service so you will definitely need your own transport. There are, however, many scenic walks from our door which will take you across the fields to other equally picturesque villages. The nearest railway station is LONG BUCKBY which is 7 miles away and offers a good service to Birmingham New Street, the average journey time being 57 minutes. On an average weekday, there are 72 trains per day travelling from Long Buckby to Birmingham New Street. We have a very friendly Dalmatian called Poppy (with eyes modelled on David Bowie - one blue, one brown) who will offer you an enthusiastic welcome (especially if sausages are on the menu) but if you are not keen, we will make sure she doesn't bother you! We also have a grumpy old tabby called Polly who definitely rules the roost and keeps Poppy in line.
