Our cottage is nestled away off the main road within the small village of Cowling, North Yorkshire. Recently renovated and converted, a former old mill barn now a unique & stylishly decorated cottage at the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales. ~ A village pub & restaurant are just a few minutes walk away, offering local ales & delicious food. Centrally located for Skipton, Haworth, the Lake District, The Dales, Ribble Valley, Leeds, York & much more are only a short car or train journey away. Saltpot Cottage is a unique and luxury home, nestled in a quiet corner of the Village Cowling at the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. The log burner will greet you with that toasty welcome after a long walk out in the countryside on a brisk Autumn or Winters day. Or be it Spring or Summer, the outside of the cottage is a sun trap where you can sit on the patio opposite the cottage and relax, have a lovely lunch enjoying the views over the field and the pinnacle. The cottage has a king size bed in bedroom 1 with a shower en suite, and bedroom two has two singles with the house bathroom, featuring free-standing Victorian style bath across the landing. The cottage has low beams & ceilings on the first floor- which adds character but we urge our guests to be mindful of this and have a few signs here and there as reminders. The living room is also situated on the first floor along with the bedrooms, where you will find fantastic views looking up to the pinnacle & a log burning stove to relax in front of. Downstairs is the open plan kitchen/diner along with a "snug area" for chilling out with drinks, playing games or watching tv. This area also features the added extra of underfloor heating for your comfort. There is a secure garage within the cottage which can accommodate cycles, motorcycles or small trailer. Within this space, there is a utility & downstairs toilet- a washing machine & tumble dryer/drying area is also available to use. Private drive way for access to the cottage & private parking available for one car outside the cottage. If more than one car we request you advise before arrival to accommodate this. We are happy to say hello and leave you in peace to enjoy your stay. However, we are only opposite in the house with the large balcony if you wish any assistance. The Saltpot Cottage is located in the lovely village of Cowling, North Yorkshire. As the cottage is in the countryside, there are numerous walks close by, including the Pennine way and Yorkshire dales. Skipton is the closest market town, which is steeped in history and has its own castle! Leeds is the nearest city, which can be reached by train from Steeton (5 miles away) and only takes 25 minutes on the train. Bolton abbey is another interesting place to visit, nestled on the River Wharfe. A "jewel in the crown" of Yorkshire set in 30,000 acres of countryside & owned by the Devonshire family since 1755- has inspired many an artist, such as Wordsworth, Turner, Ruskin & Royle. The Priory ruins are a must-see whilst at Bolton Abbey- full of history and legends- the perfect family day out. The village of Haworth is also within easy reach by car, famous for its association with the Bronte sisters, who wrote most of their popular works from the Bronte Parsonage. There is also a steam locomotive in action on the KWVR railway in Haworth- great for kids & adults! There are many more attractions and interesting things to do & see during your stay at the Saltpot Cottage, we are more than happy to help you discover these if required. Walks are also a plenty- a favourite of ours is Malham Cove in the village of Malham, a moderate walk where you can complete a loop around to gordale scar and the beautiful Janets Foss. At around 6 miles, taking a few hours to complete. Have yourself a lovely pub lunch at the Listers Arms or the Beckside cafe after your walk. If your more advanced and adventurous in your walks, there are the Yorkshire Three Peaks- Pen y Ghent, Whernside & Ingleborough. Complete all three in one day (the challenge is to do the 26 miles in under 12 hours) or walk them Individually… the views are amazing and will give you a real feeling of how beautiful the Yorkshire Dales are. There is a small cinema in Skipton, which you can book online for your tickets- very reasonably priced also (around £6.50 per adult). A cozy cinema, one of the old style picture houses and it even has an upper stalls seating area. Public transport- bus stop on the main road at the end of the drive/street. Train station (steeton) 5 miles away & local taxis available 24/7. Just to let you know there is a local country pub - the Bay Horse, serving local Yorkshire ales & beers with a good selection of wines, spirits etc. Also there is a restaurant called the Harlequin open most days & evenings serving delicious & fresh home cooked & a la carte food. Both of these are a short few minutes stroll down the drive to the main road in the village. There is a small grocery store in the village also with a good selection of food items, beers, wines etc. Take away food is available from the local fish and chip shop and a pizza house also just a few minutes walk down the village. Further down the village and into the next town of Crosshills- two good restaurants- the old bank and 22 the square, both excellent food! There is a patio opposite with outdoor furniture- bar table, sofa and bench for you to use as you wish. The cushions are stored in the garage if they are not already on the furniture and if you wish to use, feel free to take outside- we just ask you take them inside if rain looks imminent. The patio area is a shared space- we use it occasionally but there is plenty of room to spread out. We also have some remote control fans in both bedrooms as it does get warm in summer if the weather is good!
