12 The Lane has been in the same family ownership for the last 35 years. It has undergone a complete internal refurbishment, including a wood burner, with garden being landscaped (just finishing touches required!) We feel The Lane is arguably the best location on the island, easy walking distance of seafood restaurants, the jetty and beach. The village is a 15 minute walk away. Bring your own bikes as it's a great way to get around the island, or we now supply 5 basic bikes free of charge. A fantastic open plan living space which opens out onto the garden, perfect for entertaining. The house is south facing with sun almost thoughtout the day. The south side of the house has beautiful views of the old fishermen's cottages down The Lane towards the sea. The master bedroom, with its ensuite shower room, has gorgeous sea glimpses. The main bathroom has a bath with shower over. Guest have access to the whole house. We will not visit you as we live in Kent, however, at the end of your stay a cleaner will come to wash the bedding and make sure the house is in perfect condition for the next guests. From the garden of the cottage on Sunday's you will hear hymns being sung from The Old City Hall. You can get trains from London to Colchester (the near by city, 20 minutes away) and from Colchester there is a bus to Mersea. On Mersea all shops, restaurants, beaches, and yacht harbour are within walking distance, bicycles are also a great way to get around. The tide can cover the Strood (the road onto the island) so the tide table does need to be checked before arriving and leaving the island. There is a live webcam on Mersea Island which overlooks the Strood channel and the Strood causeway. The causeway is part of the B1025 between Mersea and Colchester, which can become covered during high tides (known as spring tides). During particularly high tides it is impassable by vehicles, for over an hour. Check the tides before you set off on (Website hidden by Airbnb) We recently have had a new front door fitted. If you do loose a key there will be a charge of £30 per key. Please always keep a key in the key safe.
