We are on The Mighty Mississippi River. Your backyard. You can sit on your porch, shade deck, sun deck or walk out on to the dock and enjoy your morning brew. In the evening you can sit out on the dock and view a beautiful sunset. Eagles are visitors to the area, as well as Great Blue Herons, river otters, muskrats, and varieties of ducks. This is truly a place for those who love to be on water. When the day is done come in to your home away from home. There are two bedrooms with new beds and cozy new bedding. The master has a queen size bed and the second room has two twin beds. The living room has a large flat screened TV with WiFi, a gas fireplace, and a couch with a fold out queen size bed, so you can sleep up to 6 (with special permission). You have one full bath with a shower ( no bathtub) There is a full kitchen with a dining area and also an island with two stools. The kitchen has everything you need, including a dishwasher microwave, oven, and refrigerator. You have a screened in porch to enjoy when the weather permits. We just added an Alexa for your use. I left some information about it on a desk. We also added a usb port which can charge up to six devices. You have a private screened in porch and shade deck. There is also a sun deck with table and chairs, a dock, and a shady beach to enjoy , when the Mississippi River isn’t flooding. To understand what makes this place unique, all you have to do is look out your living room window or walk out your door and turn left. The Mississippi River is your backyard. *You may the use the dock (children 12 and under and non-swimmers MUST always wear a life jacket when on the walkway or on the dock! ) for lounging, fishing, and swimming. Experienced swimmers only! If children are left unattended on the dock or beach, you will be asked to leave. *If you want to try your hand at fishing off the dock, be sure to buy a license. * We have four adult life jackets, 2 child life jackets for 50-90 pounds, and two child life jackets for children 30-50 pounds. *There are two glass tables with chairs for outdoor dining. *If you bring a boat, the public landing is just a quarter of a mile from our dock. You can tie up here for as long as you stay. (extra charge of $10.00 per day) *You may use the dock for lounging, fishing, and swimming (for experienced swimmers)! *We have an outdoor Finnish Sauna for your use if you choose. (built by our Finnish friend!) *The laundry room is shared and available for use. Just let me know. * On your deck is a gas grill for your private use. (You must clean it after use. Also, please let us know if the tank runs empty) * free wi-fi * Smart TV * outdoor fire-pit (s) One in the perennial garden and another on the beach (when the Mississippi is cooperative and there is no flooding.) * there are beach towels for your use usually on porch in warm weather, otherwise linen closet in the bathroom for use when the weather is cold. There is a sauna outside for your use. *You get the main spot in the driveway. If you have more than one vehicle, you can park up to three vehicles, if you park each other in. Or you may park a boat trailer and one vehicle. We live upstairs so we may be around to help you with information and make sure that you have what you need. (do not be afraid to ask) Guests have looked for items and thought that we did not have something and we actually did. We have started a guidebook and keep adding information as we go along. Please let us know your needs and we will find the answer if possible. If we are out on the dock or enjoying a fire on the beach, you are welcome to join. We want you to have the privacy that you came to enjoy, but we also love meeting and visiting new people. When you drive onto the island you won't realize that behind all those homes is a respite from the real world. Once you settle in you have no reason to go off looking for beauty unless you want to. The island is interesting in that there are newer homes, and older homes and across the street there is a nursing home But, the Mississippi River is your backyard and every day it is different. You might see eagles catching fish or Great blue herons standing on the dock. We have had visits by otters. There are great places to eat, lots of biking trails, several parks, several theatre experiences, Mount La Crosse ski hill, antique stores, and so much more. * We live less than two miles from the downtown area, .9 mile from Gundersen Clinic/ Hospital and across the street from Bethany Riverside Retirement Community. *From the airport you would need a taxi, Lyft, or Uber. The airport is 7.7 miles away. Train depot is about 3.5 miles. *We are less than two miles from La Crosse's downtown. * A bus line with pick up about 1/2 mile from here. * Taxi, Lyft, and Uber are available services to anywhere in the La Crosse area. * It is about a 42-minute walk to the center of downtown La Crosse. *Business Insider ranked La Crosse, WI #2 most exciting small cities in America Our Historic downtown area offers several great restaurants, bars, micro breweries, a distillery, live musical entertainment, and locally owned shops. *We have MOSES Organic farming conference in February, Artspire in mid June. *Moon Tunes Riverside Park Thursdays from 5:30 -8:00PM the summer. You can bring your own chairs, bring food or buy food there, Bring beverages or buy there. On Tuesday evenings there are band concerts in the park. *La Crosse Riverfest in late June/ early, July. *Irish Fest in August, Oktoberfest in late September/early October, Holiday Fair is in November. *The Rotary lights are in Riverside Park from Thanksgiving through January 1. It is spectacular. Especially if it is not too cold and you can walk! *Several bicycle trails, hiking trails, several marinas with food and entertainment. Various Farmers market from mid May through mid October. *If the river freezes right, we shovel off a nice sized skating rink. *Another great winter sport is skiing and snowboarding. At Mt. La Crosse you can do both. *There are several fishing tournaments throughout the year. *Living on the Mississippi River ...boating swimming, and fishing is a standard form of entertainment from early spring until late fall (weather permitting). Once the water freezes you can spend your time ice fishing. There is also duck hunting in the fall if you are so inclined. *La Crosse offers an indoor ice skating rink about 1/4th of a mile from your home. *In the summer a semi-pro baseball team called The LOGGERS plays here. They are part of the NORTHWOODS League. *La Crosse Community Theater, Weber Center, La Crosse Center, Viterbo University, UW-La Crosse Fine Arts Center, The Muse, and The Pump House offer plays, concerts, and various other entertainment throughout the year.
