For example, the master bathroom has a large tub and separate shower and sauna. There is a spa room for yoga and massage. Plan ahead and schedule massage with our fabulous local masseuse. Delicious cooking at a reasonable price. I know, she catered our wedding! We have two kayaks to share. You can bring your own sailboat (good mooring location just in front of house). You must plan ahead with me for use of the deep water dock, so that we can be sure we have the proper equipment to keep your craft safe. You may enjoy the entire house plus 26 acres of waterfront property. There is a long sandy beach at low tide. There is a nature walk thru the forest with stunning water views. The dock is great for crabbing and sometimes fishing. This part of the river is perfect for sailing & swimming most summer days. There is a large open field for kite flying, frisbee or touch football. Nextdoor we have a swimming pool, ping pong, darts and also billiards table that we are happy to share when we are home. Most weeks we will be several acres away at our cabin down the hill. The property is like the view: EXPANSIVE! It’s tricky to get one photo to show how the river wraps around us. The house and view give a serene sense of wide open spaces. There is plenty of room for complete privacy. However, if you need help with something, we are easy to reach. We practice social distancing and will only interact, if needed, from afar. Reedville, Virginia is an incredibly charming place. It hosts several nice seafood restaurants, an ice cream parlor, the fisherman's museum and "Millionaire Row" which displays gorgeous Victorian-era architecture. Reedville offers chartered fishing boats, a tour on the "disco boat", and trips to nearby & fascinating Tangier Island. Around here, people use boats as cars. There are several local restaurants that are easiest (and most fun) to reach by boat. Of course you can do it the boring way and drive your car (Website hidden by Airbnb) This is a fairly isolated part of Virginia. There is no public transportation. We usually fly into RIC or BWI. We are less than 100 miles from Washington DC and about 90 mins from Richmond. The closest grocery store is 20 mins away (Heathsville). The closest hospital is 25 minutes away (Kilmarnok). CORONA VIRUS UPDATE: We follow guidelines set by the Governor of Virginia. We have added extra hospital grade cleaning products. All doorknobs, faucets, light switches etc will be wiped down between guests. PLEASE CANCEL YOUR TRIP IF ANYONE IN YOUR GROUP HAS COUGH OR FEVER OR IF YOU HAVE BEEN EXPOSED TO A PERSON WITH COVID. The local Food Lion offers online orders with parking lot pick-up. The beauty and the respite offered by our home is a constant. However, please be aware that the natural beauty is due to nature and, as such, is variable. At low tide, there is usually a nice beach but sometimes even low tide isn’t low enough. Most days the breeze off the water means no AC needed, but sometimes it is crazy hot. Sometimes we don’t see dolphins for days but other days they seem to be everywhere! Sometimes the wind blows so hard the water becomes murky, others it is crystal clear and you can collect shells while wading. Sometimes, but thankfully rarely, the wind blows from an odd direction and the smell from omega 3 factory visits (Website hidden by Airbnb) In springtime, the osprey migrate back home to us to have their babies. There are a few weeks of spectacular air battles as they scrap with the non-migrating bald eagles over who’s in charge ( the osprey always win). In autumn, the bald eagles resume their place as masters of the river. The changing climate has made many things unpredictable. For example, during Summers 2017 & 2018 there were NO jelly fish ALL summer. Summer 2019 there were tons in late July & August (Website hidden by Airbnb) Sometimes we have hurricanes. It’s nature.
