Murton is a village in County Durham about 3 miles from the Durham Heritage Coast and the seaside town of Seaham. The fine city of Durham, with its ancient cathedral and castle is less than 10 miles west, and the cities of Sunderland and Newcastle upon Tyne are not far to the North. There are many other attractions in the area including Beamish Open Air Museum. Slightly further afield are the extensive Roman Remains at Hadrian's Wall. Also within a day trip distance are three national parks - Northumbria, North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales. The coastal town of Whitby, with its associations to both Dracula and Captain Cook is just an hour's drive. Road: The village is just off the A19 which connects to Newcastle via the Tyne Tunnel and also less than 10 miles from the A1. Bus: There are plenty of local bus services, to Seaham, to Durham and to Sunderland Train: Durham station is on the East Coast Main Line and there are also stations in Seaham and Sunderland. (Station pick up available - extra fee applies) Metro: The Metro links Sunderland to Newcastle right out as far as the airport. Air: Newcastle Airport is the nearest. (airport pick up available - extra fee applies) We are avid geocachers and can offer specific information on the area for other cachers if required. Never heard of it? Then maybe take a geotour with us and we will introduce you to the odd sport we are so fond of (extra fee applies)
