The neighbourhood: Ed’s place is located in East Sussex, England, United Kingdom. Lewes is a uniquely characterful town with quirky independent shops and an incredible array of pubs, Georgian buildings, cobbled streets and a medieval castle. There's a local cinema / cafe / restaurant called the Depot which is just as good for hanging out as it is for seeing a film. You can easily lose hours in the vintage / antiques shops and local food markets (Fridays and first Saturday of the month). It's a vibrant place for all ages - famous for summer music festivals, Charleston's Speakers Festival and bonfire parades. At the bottom of our road, is a park perfect for kicking a ball and a playground. Other amenities include a local skatepark, outdoor and indoor swimming pools, tennis courts, churches, historic buildings, music recitals and gig venues (The Con Club two mins away is worth checking for listings). There are various websites (eg. Viva Lewes) where you can see what's on. Getting around: We are 15 minutes from the South Downs Way and great walks to Kingston and Alfriston, both with great pubs. Other fun walks include striding over Black Cap on the way to a pub lunch in Plumpton, and from Glynde to Lewes, via Mount Caburn. There is also exciting mountain-biking in Friston Forest, 30 minutes away. Beaches we love are: Tidemills and Hope Gap (leading to Cuckmere Haven) in Seaford; Birling Gap, in East Dean, and Rottingdean with its seaside promenade to Brighton Marina. Lewes Train station is a 10 minute walk, with trains to Glynde (5 minutes), Brighton (15 minutes) and London (1 hour 10 minutes). There are buses to Glyndebourne Opera House too.
