Cotswold family-style room nr Witney & Woodstock
My place is convenient for Wilderness, Blenheim, Cornbury events. It is close to Blenheim Palace, Woodstock (4 miles); Witney (4 miles); Burford (5 miles); Chipping Norton (6 miles); Oxford (12 miles) and Stratford (30 miles). Charlbury railway station is just 2 miles away, where there is a regular service to London (Paddington) which takes just over an hour. Room has double bed, tv and books. Suitable for solo adventurers, cyclists and business travellers. A second room is also available. The base price (week days) is £35 per room, with a £15 surcharge if the room is to be shared. The room is a single aspect room which looks out onto the village lane and countryside beyond at the front. It has a new, comfortable double bed and clean sheets and bedding (though not ironed, time is too short!). There's a flat screen tv with freeview, well stocked bookshelves, 1 of my son-in-law's original paintings on the wall (his work having been accepted at the R.A. summer exhibition) and antique mirrors and rug. A small kettle is also provided. You will have the use of the upstairs bathroom and shower; I usually use the shower and bathroom downstairs when there are guests, so the upstairs bathroom, which is opposite the guest room, is yours. Breakfast is basically a simple affair with coffee, tea, milk, Greek style yoghurt, muesli, various breads for toasting, marmalade, jams and marmite readily available. You may use the kitchen at breakfast only. Other meals: there are a number of friendly pubs in the local area, all of which serve good food. Five minutes' walk away, the Plough in Finstock is deservedly popular, but be aware that it doesn’t serve food on Sunday night or Mondays. I'll be there to meet'n'greet, and also help out at breakfast. I am also very happy to offer help and advice about local things to do and see. However I'm pretty busy, especially in term time, and am likely to be out and about quite a lot. Finstock is a pretty but unpretentious village set round a hill in the Cotswolds. My house is a 1920s semi which is five minutes' walk from the local pub, the Plough, which is friendly and which serves good food. The Village Shop is also about 5 minutes away in the opposite direction. There are plenty of interesting and pretty walks nearby. There is parking on the verge opposite or on the road nearby. We are about 30 mins from Oxford, 10 mins from Woodstock or Witney, and 50 mins from Stratford-on-Avon. There's a reasonable local bus service and the rail station at Charlbury is only 2 miles away and takes you to London, Paddington, in about an hour. You may hear me playing guitar or singing sometimes, though that usually happens well away from the room you'll be using. (I perform occasionally with friends at local folk/blues clubs.) I'm quite a keen walker, so can recommend good local routes.
