Refurbished Farm Oak Granary on Staddle Stones
Welcome to our warm and cosy self contained oak beamed granary surrounded by fields. Situated on a working beef farm in a quiet village with local pubs and restaurants . Excellent base for exploring the New Forest either walking or cycling. Local bike hire. Beaches only 25 minutes away. Granary has been fully refurbished recently to a high standard consisting of bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and sitting/dining area. STEEP stairs to first floor. Starter continental breakfast included. Our granary is on two floors and a cosy place to stay, currently heated for the cooler months. It has an induction hob and a microwave but no oven. Also has a fridge with small freezer compartment. Cafeteria provided so you can bring your favourite coffee. You are welcome to sit in our garden. If you would like to bring your own bikes, we have a locked garden building you can store them in. We will leave you a starter package consisting of bread, butter, jam, pastries, yoghurts, semi skimmed milk, orange juice, tea and coffee. Boldrewood situated in the heart of the new Forest has some lovely walks. You can view the deer being fed from April to September looking onto their field from a specially built platform. The Ornamental Drive (Rhinefield) opposite Boldrewood also has many great walks. Trees that can be seen include giant redwoods and Douglas fir. The tallest trees of the new Forest are here, a pair of redwoods standing each side of an open grassy ride, they are about 150 years old. One trail walk is called ‘The Tall Trees Trail’. The Rufus Stone is only 10 mins away from us where King William II was fatally wounded with an arrow during a royal hunting outing in the Forest (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) AD. Bus tours of the New Forest are available so you can experience the outstanding beauty of the National Park. All tickets allow you to hop on and hop off whenever you wish during any of the 3 routes. This is a great way of getting around if you are not bringing a car. (Website hidden by Airbnb) The National Motor Museum and Bucklers Hard is a great day out. Within the Motor Museum grounds is the Palace House, once the gatehouse of the medieval Beaulieu Abbey, has been the Montague family home since (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) It overlooks the Beaulieu River millpond and you can buy tickets to enjoy a tour of the palace given by costumed guides. Bucklers Hard is not only a pretty waterside village but also the historic site where Nelson’s favourite ship Agamemnon was built. You can book kayaking in Beaulieu through Liquid Logistics. New Forest Paddle Sport company, New Milton on Sea is 18 miles from us where you can enjoy paddle boarding and kayaking with lessons available should you want one. Shoresports, Christchurch operate on Mudeford Quay and offer paddle boarding and kyaking. 23 miles from us. New Forest Waterpark, Fordingbridge is 16 miles from us where you can book to do paddle boarding, kyaking and cable wake boarding. The Portsmouth Historic Shipyard, Portsmouth is a 40 minute drive where you can book tickets to see The Mary Rose, HMS Victory and HMS Warrior. The Spinnaker Tower gives you a fantastic view over Portsmouth. The pretty town of ‘Lyndhurst’ 10 minutes away has cafes, tea rooms, pubs, restaurants, fish & chips and ice creams. Lyndhurst has been the capital of the New Forest since William the Conqueror established the area as a royal hunting ground in (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) Lovely beaches only 25 minutes drive away - Mudeford, Avon and Highcliffe are popular. Highcliffe beach is great for walking. Park at the top and walk down the steps of the cliffs and you can walk to Avon Beach for a cuppa and a snack before turning back. The Noisy Lobster at Avon Beach is open 9am to 11am Monday to Sunday. They serve cooked breakfast, lunch, dinner and also have a bakery. Their fish and chips are the best! A lovely choice for evening dinner too with local seafood on the menu. They have a website for more information. Mudeford has a key to walk along and you can catch a ferry over to where the beach chalets are for a walk. Bike hire available in Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst and Burley. With Burley you are straight on the Forest. Both Burley and Lyndhurst hire electric bikes. If you would like a horse ride, Ford Farm Stables in Brockenhurst caters for forest visitors. Lymington is a very pretty town to walk around with a lovely harbour. Our local pubs serve delicious meals which you can walk to should you wish to enjoy a few drinks. I recommend The White Hart, Cadnam. Not only do they serve good food, they have a large garden and 1.5 miles away. The Empress of Blandings is a large attractive pub with beams, serves very good food and only 1.5 miles from us. The Sir John Barleycorn, Cadnam is a lovely thatched pub with garden and only 2.2 miles from us. The Green Dragon, Brook is a good choice with a big garden. It is a thatched pub in a quiet village on edge of the Forest only 2.9 miles from us. Lyndhurst: La Pergola is an Italian restaurant in a lovely setting just outside Lyndhurst high street. Imperial China. Passage to India. Anissa’s Thai. Renoufs cheese and wine bar. Prezzos. The Huntsman of Brockenhurst is a very good pub in Brockenhurst which serves good food and also has seating outside. If you would like to book a taxi, Bee Line Cars is a local company and you can contact them on (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) Cost from us to Lyndhurst is £15 and another £15 back. During summer months, farm vehicles may work late and start early so you may hear these go up or down our lane. As well as the granary you are welcome to sit in the garden. Any problems, please text and we will come over to assist. Or you can always knock on the farmhouse back door. Winsor is a quiet farming village. It has a Junior school, parish hall and a pub. The Compass pub is pretty but small. Our nearest train stations are Totton and Ashurst but if you are training in from further distances, it’s best to head for Brockenhurst as that is usually cheaper. There are bike hire shops in Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst and Burley. We do NOT have regular buses so really you do need a car, motorbike, bicycles or take a Uber to visit the Forest from our farm. Please place any filled bin bags or empty bottles onto the outside decking should you wish to rid of them during your stay and I will remove them for you.
