POROS THEA VILLA
Poros Thea Villa is a 100 square meters, one - level cozy house, surrounded by gardens, in white and blue decoration, perched on a hillside with breathtaking, panoramic views over the sea and Peloponnese and Poros island. Poros Thea Villa is an ideal, romantic hideaway all year long: you can choose between the Greek summer vibe, the warm autumn quietness, the savage winter splendours and the colourful springtime reverie. Poros Thea Villa is situated in the hill of Askeli, one of the main beaches in Poros. It offers calm, serene isolation, mainly due to the pine forest that surrounds it, as well as superb view over the sea. You can reach Poros town by car, in 10'. The house is compeltely autonomous. It is in the second floor of the villa, has its own entrance and parking and is surrounded by mediterranean-style gardens. Poros Thea Villa is designed for relaxation and has a minimal-style décor. The house sleeps up to 4 people: -bedroom 1 (double bed & bedside tables & closet) -bedroom 2 (double bed & closet) -living room with fireplace, 2 sofas -spacious and fully equipped kitchen (oven, hotplates and dishwasher included) -dining room Amenities: -Air Conditioning in both bedrooms -Launderette -Television -DVD Player -Private Parking -Linen and towels provided -Cleaning provided upon request (with extra fee / 50euros) -bathroom -large veranda perfect for outdoor dining, big table -backyard The villa is situated up in the hill of Askeli and the climb is a steep one, so its is preferable to have a car, motorbike or a four-wheel motorbike to reach it, unless you are in a really good shape! Taxis operating in Poros, can also get you to the house. The cost is 7 euros, per ride. Distance to Askeli beach is 10' walking, to Poros town 30' walking. Poros town is a lovingly preserved historical little town with its buildings protected by cultural heritage laws. It's natural and architectural beauty has inspired a number of poets and writers. Poros' unique mixture of intellectual, urbane, and rural culture with its strong affinity for music and dance can be felt everywhere, whether strolling through the narrow paths of Poros town or simply relaxing in one of the many little cafes and bars that dot the seaside. Activities in Poros • Poros offers a variety of beaches, each with its own distinct advantages and easily reached by bike, bus, or the inexpensive watertaxis. Sports enthusiasts will enjoy Neorio beach, where former water-ski slalom national champion Sotiris Kyprios owns one of Greece's finest schools for watersports. Askeli beach, with its chic beach bar and sun beds in pastel colors, is the new attraction. Monastery beach, named for the ancient monastery that overlooks the pine tree covered bay, is ideal for relaxing in the shade and watching the twinkling of the sun on the sea. Love bay appeals with its romantic setting. Fashionable Kochylia beach with music bar attracts the youngsters. Russian bay is truly a special location. All beaches are pebble covered, equipped with sun beds and umbrellas, and there is always a little beach bar or taverna (the typical Greek restaurant) nearby. • Water-ski, jet ski, barefoot, wake board, tubes: there are two schools on Poros, at Neorion Bay and at Askeli beach • Diving lessons at Askeli • Sailing lessons and short trips • Jogging and hiking along the sea side or through Kalavrias’ pine woods, there is a variety of paths waiting to be discovered • Mountain biking • Fishing • Work out - there are two gyms on Poros, and two more on Galata – one with an indoor pool, all of them run by professionals • Gather information on ancient Greek culture – visit the charming, small museum in Poros town and the spectacular location of the Sanctuary of Poseidon on Kalavria • Meditate at the Monastery dedicated to Holy Mother Mary - Source of Life, built in the middle of pine woods next to a healing spring • Take part in agricultural life – season permitting learn about olive or grape harvest, collect oregano, thyme, chamomile or wild capers • Boat excursions: take a lovely ride with Kaiki-boats (traditional motor boats) to one of the tiny, uninhabited islands that surround Poros, or to romantic Aliki beach at the base of the famous "lemon-woods" on the mainland. • Excursions to the famous archeological sights of Mycene, Tyrins, Tolon, Argos, Epidaurus as well as beautiful Nafplia, the first capital city of the liberated Greece. • Excursions by hydrofoil or ferryboat to the well known islands of Hydra or Spetses. • Reservation of theatre and concert tickets for the summer festival at the famous Epidaurus theater. The Festival is held June to September and includes performances of antique Greek tragedies (in modern Greek language) as well as concerts of classical music and Greek folklore. The island of Poros is situated in the Argo-Saronic Gulf, 32 sea miles from Athens’ Piraeus harbor, and at its nearest point in only 200 meters distance from the Peloponnesian mainland. This means that the island can be comfortably reached by sea as well as by land, and thus is never cut off due to bad weather conditions. Arriving at Athens “Elefterios Venizelos” airport you can choose between the airport shuttle bus X 96 or a taxi to bring you to Piraeus main harbor. The schedules for ferry boat and hydrofoil/ catamaran vary due to season. Information and on line booking on Hellenic seaways website. The classic ferry boat, which transports passengers as well as vehicles, offers a romantic sea trip with intermediate stops at the ports of Aegina and Methana. The journey takes about 2,5 hours and costs 13 Euro/person approx. The faster hydrofoil as well as the comfortable catamaran boat ride directly to Poros in about one hour’s time, cost is 25 Euro/person approx. In case you travel with your own car or motor bike, a ferry boat will set you over from Galata every hour between 7.00 am and 22.00 pm daily. In summer schedules are every 30 minutes. Ticket reservation is not necessary. There are public bus connections (KTEL, phone service 14505, in Greek) between Piraeus and Galatas and as well as between Nafplio and Galata. Routes (distances) from Poros Thea Villa: 3' minutes by car to the Askeli beach 10' by car to Poros town The nearest supermarket is 300m away. Poros in fact consists of two small islands, connected via a small bridge: Sfairia island with Poros town and the pine clad Kalavria island. Together they cover 31 sq km and have a coastline of 42 km. Vigla is its highest peak with an altitude of 358 meters. Public transportation offers two bus lines, both starting from the central square on the harbor promenade. With “Neorion Line” you can explore the south west coast line with the beaches of Cochylia, Neorion, Love Bay and the Russian Bay. The “Monastery Line” drives along the south eastern coast with the beaches of Askeli, Panagitsa, and picturesque Monastery beach. Small boats connect Poros with Galata (every 10 minutes), the charming Alikes beach, underneath the Lemon Grove, and - upon demand - Askeli beach. The ferry boat to Galata is connecting the island with the mainland in a hourly rhythm, from 7.10 am to 22.10 pm daily. In summer schedules are every 30 minutes. Taxi service includes cars and boats, both working on a 24 hour base, with an emergency service for the late night hours only. The house is the second storey of the villa. It is completely autonomous, though since my parents live downstairs, please try to respect quiet hours.
