Spacious Self Contained Shepherd's Hut

Situated in a south facing corner of a paddock and with its own garden, ‘The Waggon’ is larger than most shepherd’s huts making for a more comfortable stay. It was completed in 2018, using old and repurposed materials. Stained glass windows and polished hardwood panelling are blended with mod cons, it is full of character. Well equipped with en suite shower room, kitchen area, wood burner for the chilly weather plus a separate spacious storage shed for bikes coats and muddy boots! Gt. Ryburgh has a shop, pub and butcher. 15 miles from the coast perfect for bird watching, cycling and enjoying our lovely countryside. The paddock is part of our smallholding. We keep sheep, chickens, ducks and geese. There is usually a horse and/or a pony too. Quite often chicks, lambs and ducklings will be around. Some or all of these will be within the view (although there is a fence to keep them from bothering guests). With all this, sadly we cannot allow guests to bring their pets. The Waggon is close to the stables but retains its privacy so we shall not disturb you as we go about our jobs. Parking is provided for a car and a separate shed allows secure storage for bicycles and somewhere for wet clothes and boots. There is a private mown grass access path. The Waggon has an outside light which you are welcome to leave on but a torch is also useful after dark. The Waggon is strictly no smoking inside or outside. Facilities Hot and cold running water and electricity. Double bed with soft headboard and a reading light Storage underneath both the bed and the leather sofa. Clothes hooks and hangers A kitchen comprising sink, oven (conventional/microwave), double hot plate, kettle, toaster and fridge. Implements and crockery A breakfast bar with stools looking directly out through a large window over the paddocks and fields A sofa Wood burning stove with firewood provided to start you off, more available for a small extra charge or from the shop. Shower room with thermostatically controlled shower, WC and basin. Towel hanging and space for sponge bags Power points and USB charging sockets (all you need is your charging leads) Wifi (code by the charging points) A barbeque is available too (charcoal available from the shop) Secure storage for bicycles in separate shed with more coat and boot space The Waggon has a private access and sheltered garden area for guests' exclusive use. There is a secure shed for storing bikes, with space for coats and muddy boots too. Our house is on the same site and we'll be happy to help if you need us. We’ll also welcome you and show you around on arrival. The village has a shop/post office, pub (opening Wednesday to Saturday) , fish and chip shop, church and a butchers. The shop in particular is a very vibrant community venture and offers a good range of food, fresh bread, fresh fruit and vegetables, newspapers, greetings cards etc. and best of all it is right at the bottom of the drive. It also sells books and has basic cafe facilities . There are good walks around the village of Ryburgh with direct access to them without the need to go on the road. Cycling is good and we are on National Cycle Route #1. Route #13 is less than a mile away too. The playing field with outdoor gym equipment is a very short walk away. Fakenham is less than five miles away with a full range of shops, doctors, dentists, garages etc. Market day is Thursday. The coast is 25 minutes away by car at Wells-next-the-Sea, Stiffkey and Morston. A car is essential. There is an hourly bus service to Norwich from the main road one mile away and the Coasthopper bus service is accessible from Fakenham. Please be aware that there will be a bit of noise from the poultry sometimes.
