This is a spacious apartment with all the comforts of home, with art-laden walls, equipped kitchen for when you wish to eat in. It has its own entrance and two wall-to-wall closets, dresser and bureau, central heating and wall A/C, wifi and tv. It is a non-smoking space. Guests have access to the entire apartment. There is a supply closet and an utility room in the space that is not accessible to guests. Also, there is always an on-call person as back up. City Island measures approximately 1.5 miles (2.4 km) long by 0.5 miles (0.80 km) wide. At one time it was incorporated within the boundaries of Pelham, Westchester County, New York, but it is now part of the New York City borough of the Bronx. It is a comfortable neighborhood place with homes ranging from cottages to a few old mansions. It is easy to walk or bike everywhere. People are friendly and there is a great level of safety throughout the island. It is near major health facilities and has its own firehouse. It has several houses of worship: Catholic, Episcopalian, Methodist, a synagogue, and a resident Buddhist priest (my husband). Lickety Split is an old style ice cream parlor, and there are several art galleries with shops and one live-music café. Yard sales on the weekends are part of the culture. Sunsets and sunrises are free, beautiful and ever-changing. City Island is ideal for photographers, writers and artists. New York City public transit provides regular bus service on and off the island connecting with subway and bus stations. An express bus runs mornings and evenings during the work week. Local car services, Uber and Lyft are readily available and the railroad is close by either at the Botanical Gardens Station or at New Rochelle and this provides access to Westchester towns going north and to Grand Central Station-Manhattan going south. There are car rental places nearby as well. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, City Island is like a beach community on the weekends when weather permits use of the local beach. Beachgoers generally end their day eating fresh fish and seafood at the local open air eateries and you may experience heavy traffic during peak hours. During the week and anytime outside the regular season, traffic is light. There is a bike lane on the access/egress bridge and bike paths all through the bird preserve and as far north as Westchester. Please feel confident that when you book I will always let you know ahead of time what the traffic conditions will be if It turns out that you're headed for any type of congestion. We do have a "back street" that helps and many times the congestion is predictable per time of day or day of the week. The City police are always on hand to direct traffic when necessary.
