'Brightwells', a pretty 250 year old Grade II semi-detached thatched cottage is located in the village of Sutton Scotney, 6 miles north of the historic town of Winchester. Characterful & stylishly furnished, the two-bedroom cottage is well placed to explore Winchester, the pretty town of Stockbridge on the famous chalk streams of the Test, the market town of Alresford & its surrounds. With Stonehenge, Highclere (Downton Abbey), the Jane Austen Museum & New Forest nearby, there is plenty to do. Located in the heart of the village, Brightwells is a cosy semi-detached cottage with its own private cottage garden to the front enclosed by a picket fence. The dog-proof rear garden is a good size with a patio area, outdoor table setting, a small pond and summer house - a great place to enjoy afternoon tea on a sunny day. Stylishly decorated the self-contained, centrally heated cottage sleeps a maximum of 4 guests upstairs, with one double bedroom (with freeview TV), a second bedroom with single twin beds plus a small walk-in closet. All beds are fitted with soft luxurious linen and guests are provided with fluffy bathrobes and towels for use during their stay. On the ground floor the entrance to the cottage provides storage for coats, hats and boots etc, and leads to a cosy sitting room with Sky TV and PlayStation, a brick-built fireplace with a Thurcroft traditional stove effect portable gas heater, plenty of books, games, videos and a small adjoining office area with WiFi and a bureau stacked full of local information on things to do and see. The country kitchen and dining area is well fitted with a gas Rangemaster cooker, modern amenities including fridge, dishwasher, washer/dryer machine, a microwave and fully equipped with everything you need during your stay. The kitchen table can extend to accommodate 6 people for dinner and a stable door leads on to the delightful cottage garden. The bathroom is located downstairs with a large corner bath, wall mounted showerhead holder and a pull-down shower screen. Luxury toiletries are supplied in case you forget anything. Towels, bed linen and hair dryer are included and there is an iron and ironing board. In addition, our welcome basket will be waiting for your arrival with coffee, tea, sugar, milk, eggs, cheese, juice and bread plus some delicious home baking! You will also find a wealth of information in the cottage on local attractions. Crammed with hidden treasures, England’s nearby ancient capital of Winchester is steeped in history offering unrivalled shopping and firmly established as a foodie destination with an abundance of cafes and restaurants, including the UK’s largest farmers’ market . . . not to mention the bustling, magical atmosphere of Winchester during the Hat Fair in the summer and the festive season over Christmas and the New Year. You'll be captivated by the festival of street performances early July and, from the moment the festive lights switch on mid November, by the famous traditional German inspired Winchester Christmas Market and open air ice rink in the Cathedral Close. The city bursts with wonderful activities throughout the year! We very much look forward to welcoming you to our cottage. Two night minimum stay. Entire home with own private garden. Free parking in the forecourt of The Square, located in front of the cottage. We live half a mile away in the next village so if you do have any queries or need any help with recommendations as to where to go and what to do, please feel free to contact us at any time. Otherwise we will leave you in peace to enjoy your stay! Lying alongside the River Dever, the village of Sutton Scotney is situated in the heart of the Hampshire countryside and enjoys excellent road access to numerous local attractions via the A303, A34 and M3. The friendly, family run Dever Stores, in the centre of the village, is open 7 days a week offering a wide range of food, drink and household essentials plus a range of freshly baked breads at the weekend - and the village post office is located at the local service station. Village pubs include the Coach and Horses, a traditional pub offering breakfast, lunch and dinner - and just a 15 minute walk down the road to the neighbouring hamlet of Wonston with its Saxon church, you'll find a friendly welcome from Cumbrian landlord Matt Todd awaits you at Camra's National Pub of the Year, the Wonston Arms, 'the best little pub in the UK'. Winchester is only a 10 minute drive away and a regular hourly bus service operates from Hatch Warren near Basingstoke, through our village to the centre of Winchester. London by train from Winchester and nearby Micheldever Station is just an hour away and Southampton, Andover, Basingstoke and Salisbury are all within easy reach. One small well behaved dog is very welcome but must stay downstairs please. As with many listed thatched cottages, the stairs to the first floor are steep so will not be suitable for people with mobility problems. Please note, to eliminate fire risks and in line with insurance policy requirements, a thatched roof means no smoking or naked flames inside the property other than the Rangemaster cooker and stove effect gas heater.
