It has off-street parking and outside seating areas in beautiful south facing gardens with views over surrounding countryside. A short stroll takes you into the heart of the village with its lovely pubs and village shop. As we live in neighbouring cottage we are usually at home or only a phone call away to answer any questions that our information booklet doesn't answer for you. Or if you need suggestions of where to go & what to do. We will also be available to greet you with the keys and show you round the cottage. Winster is a very friendly ancient lead-mining village in the Derbyshire Peak District that has existed since as far back as the doomsday book (1086). It has many medieval buildings that date back to the hey-day of its mining legacy. There are many intriguing narrow pathways that lead up and around the village winding past the cottages that huddle on the hillside. The village has a National Trust Historic Market Hall, two excellent pubs, a well stocked village shop and post office, two churches, playing fields, basketball and tennis courts, and several playground areas. The village has a busy social calendar with events such as Wakes carnival week in June and Secret Gardens in July being the main events. There are also the famous local Morris Dancers and the Guisers. There are lots of interesting places to visit in the surrounding area all within a short drive; such as Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, Bakwell (home of the famous Bakewell Pudding), Matlock Bath & Heights of Abraham, Carsington water and much much more...... Car is recommended but not essential. Matlock Train station. Good bus services through Winster to Matlock & Bakewell, public transport access to further afield from either town. Bike hire & trails available in several locations. Several local taxi services. Reductions for couples only and small groups during the low season.
