This 17th Century Cotswold house boasts a wealth of traditional architectural features and is set in the heart of an idyllic village 2 miles outside of Bampton and 4 miles from Burford. It offers a luxury stay for those looking to experience the perfect Cotswolds getaway. Stoneycroft is a Grade II listed house originally built as two croft cottages and has undergone extensive restoration and addition of a new gallery wing in the past few years. The cottage wing has a formal English garden to the front of the house and a path that leads to its own front door. The cottage wing of the house has an entrance porch with a cloakroom for Wellies and coats. The ground floor of the cottage comprises of a Living Room with an Inglenook Fireplace for open log fires, a Dining Room with an Inglenook Fireplace, a morning room that leads upstairs to the first floor comprising three bedrooms and separate family bathroom with a walk-in shower and bathtub. The door in the dinning opens to a large bespoke country kitchen with breakfast area. BREAKFAST We provide our guests with travelling size still water bottles, bacon from the local butchers, free range eggs, loaf of bread, pastries, orange juice, tea, milk, yogurt, fruit and freshly ground and brewed coffee of your choice from the built-in coffee machine. The kitchen is stocked with all the breakfast items mentioned above so that our guests can leisurely cook and enjoy breakfast in the morning. Guests staying at Stoneycroft access the cottage wing using the main entrance door and will be able to park their vehicles in the parking area to the front of the property as seen in the photo gallery section. Guests will have sole use of the cottage wing as mentioned above and the gardens to the front of the property and may only be able to access the rear gardens with permission from the owners. Our guests are also able to use the village tennis court, which is a 2 minute walk from the house, adjacent to a secure children's play area. Stoneycroft comprises the cottage wing built around (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) and a new gallery wing built in (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) to the rear of the property. The owners reside in the new gallery wing of the house, which has a separate entrance and private gardens to the rear of the property. The owners will be available whenever necessary to assist with any queries. The cottage wing of the house is completely private for guests - floor plans of the cottage can be viewed in the photo gallery. The owners will be on site to welcome guests upon arrival and show them around the house. The Cotswolds is best known for its breathtaking views of the rolling English countryside and beautiful honey coloured stone houses. Stoneycroft is perfectly situated between the old market town of Burford (6 miles) and the “Downton Abbey village" town of Bampton (2 miles). Burford is well known for its old world charm with shops, galleries, country pubs, restaurants and cafes. The Burford Garden Centre is definitely worth a visit for finding all the ingredients that makes a Cotswold home. Guests with children can easily spend an entire day enjoying the Cotswold Wildlife Park (2 miles) set in over 160 acres of beautiful parklands and an amazing collection of animals. We are also ideally situated for those wanting to attend the Cheltenham Races (30/40 min drive) and there are taxi services available in the area. Guests wanting to join the many pony-riding clubs in the area and/or follow the Hunt may also use the livery in the village which will be able to provide for all your horse's needs. There are lots of beautiful walks from the property and in the surrounding countryside. Most villages in the area are only a couple of miles from each other and all have wonderful village pubs to stop and savour the locally sourced produce and ales. Places to eat: Alvescot, The Plough (2 doors away) Filkins, The Five All's Eastleach, The Victoria Shilton, Rose and Crown Langford, The Bell Swinbrook, The Swan Clanfield, The Plough Burford, The Lamb & The Angel Daylesford Organic Farm Shop and Cafe in Kingham (30 min drive) Train The nearest rail stations are Charlbury (14.5 miles, 28 minutes drive) and Kingham (14 miles, 30 minutes drive) on the Cotswold Line from Paddington. Buses There are busses from Oxford to Carterton and also an hourly bus service to the village that runs from Witney to Carterton. Car We are one of fifteen villages in the area and exploring is easiest by car. From London M40/A40 takes 1:20min. Please note that the owners are happy to provide a complimentary service of setting up the log fire daily in the winter months. However, we are at times unable to provide this service in the rare occasions we are having to be away but will always leave the cottage well stocked with logs and kindling. The cottage is supplied with a standard amount of logs sufficient for open fires in the evening and any excess amount of logs will have to purchased by guests.
