The Cottage sits in a large secluded garden in the heart of the picturesque village of St Margaret's at Cliffe. Two double bedrooms and a summer house are available for up to 6 people. We are a short walk to the beach and the white cliffs of Dover. The village has a shop and pubs serving food. The pretty seaside towns of Deal and Sandwich are nearby. Superb for exploring the SE of England including London, (1hr by train), the city of Canterbury and the continent (Eurotunnel 20mins by car). The Cottage is our home and we live there much of the time, which means it isn't always available to book. This also means that the space is not set up purposefully as a 'holiday let'. It has our personal belongings and the usual things you would expect to find around a home. We like being able to share the space and we are always pleased when people enjoy staying there, we are not running a business. You have access to the garden and house. One room, our study, is kept locked. All other rooms are available to use. Two bedrooms in the house, two bathrooms, a living room and a dining room and of course the kitchen. The summer house in the garden serves as the third room that sleeps two more guests. It is a short distance down the garden away from the house. It is warm in the winter as it is heated and cosy, while it is a nice place to sit in the shade on hot summer days. This is our home and our possessions and personal items will be in the house. We stay elsewhere when we have guests and so although we are nearby and can be contacted you will have privacy and peace. The village of St Margaret's at Cliffe is a friendly and welcoming place. There is a local pub called the Smugglers that also serves food and a well stocked local shop that is open from 7:00 in the morning every day until late in the evening. Both less than 100 yards from the house. You are in the middle of the famous White Cliffs countryside and the village is a great base for exploring this beautiful coast. For more local information search a search engine such as (Hidden by Airbnb) for "St Margaret's parish website". Nearby Dover has an excellent leisure center, restaurants, bars, cinema and shopping. Deal to 5 miles to the north is a pretty seaside town with a pier, and vibrant cafe feel. If you are interested in local history have a look at the online village archive. Search the web for "St Margaret's village archive" in (Hidden by Airbnb) to find the website. You are a 10 minute walk from the beach at St Margaret's Bay. Footpaths run along the cliffs north and south giving some spectacular walks. You have parking for two cars in the garden and if you need more there is a car park in the village center 100 yards from the house. Martin Mill train station is a mile outside of the village with a high speed train link to central London that takes just over an hour. The Channel Tunnel in Folkestone is a 20 minute drive from the village. You are a 30 minute drive from the city of Canterbury with its cathedral and historic center to explore. The village is excellent for cycling. Right on the number one national cycle route you can leave the village on safe "bike only" cycle paths that take you along the coast with miles of quiet lanes to explore. The kitchen at The Cottage is fairly modest. It has a two ring induction hob and a combination oven. It is sufficient for cooking meals for 4-6 people but is not suited to large scale or complex cooking. In the winter when the Rayburn is lit this can also be used for cooking which gives an additional oven and hot plate. The Rayburn isn't alight in summer as it gets very hot. There is plenty of space in the garden if you'd like to bring a BBQ. If you are booking for an extended stay in the summer please be aware that we might need to pop round to water plants in the garden. We can usually arrange a time to do this when guests are out and we will, of course, always let you know first before we do.
