La Chouette is part of an original farmhouse and barn built in the early 1800s in rolling French countryside. Set in 3.5 acres, there is a large garden with terrace, patio furniture and barbecue for you to enjoy. It is located midway between Bagnoles de l'Orne and Lassay-les-Chateaux, both about 8 miles away. Bagnoles is a well known French spa town famous for its waters and healing properties and there is an excellent selection of restaurants in the town. Lassay is known for its chateaux and also has a delightful rose garden. The picturesque medieval town of Domfront with its chateau and church of St. Julien is 17 miles away. Though all amenities are nearby, our location is very tranquil and you can feel the peace and quiet envelop you. The village of Madré is 2km from Le Cerisier and has a butcher's shop, post office and small bar. There are excellent restaurants in the villages nearby which serve fixed price lunches including cider and wine. La Chouette is a 2 person cottage with all you will require for a comfortable romantic holiday. The front door opens into the living room with separate kitchen diner located off the living room area. The living room has comfortable seating, English satellite TV along with DVD. There are patio doors leading to the terrace and open garden with BBQ. The dining kitchen has dining table, chairs and all required cutlery and crockery. The kitchen includes gas cooker, fridge with freezer section, coffee maker, electric kettle, microwave, toaster, and iron. Stairs lead up to the: Master bedroom with double bed, wardrobe, drawers etc. There is plenty of space for a cot if required (please enquire for details). The bathroom is en suite and has WC, wash handbasin and shower. All bed linen and towels are included in the rental rate. WiFi available. Accessibility There are steps into each of the gites and stairs to the bedrooms so the gites may not be suitable for those of limited mobility. Outside The garden outside the gites is just under an acre so there is plenty of room to spread yourselves out. Garden and patio furniture along with barbecues are available. There are a further 2.5 acres beyond the garden which is given over to a playing field - ideal for energetic youngsters - and a newly planted orchard which we are developing. You are more than welcome to sample the apples, pears and plums when in season. The swimming pool is around 1 metre deep and close to the terraces so you can keep an eye on your children while enjoying a glass of wine, cooking the barbecue or just relaxing. We live on site so will be able to help you at any time with your requirements. Bagnoles de l'Orne' This elegant spa town is renowned for its waters (Les Thermes). It is also a gastronomic centre and has at least 16 restaurants listed on TripAdvisor along with many activities throughout the summer. Enjoy your lunch then walk around the lake, past the casino and up to the Hotel de Ville (town hall) which is a converted chateau in beautiful grounds. There are also walks through the woods at the edge of the town ideal for wildlife and bird watching. Try the velorail which uses the old railway line running from Bagnoles to Briouze - great fun for the kids – have a (Email hidden by Airbnb) More information 'Javron-les-Chapelles to Mayenne Voie Verte ' The Javron to Mayenne Voie Verte is the old railway line between the two towns. Many old railway lines have been converted into "Voies Vertes" or cycle routes which can be enjoyed with the safety of not having to go on the roads. This véloroute (as it is called) has just had large sections resurfaced and the whole route is easily navigable. As it is an old railway line, there are no steep gradients so can easily be tackled by all family members. Further information can be obtained from the following link (Website hidden by Airbnb) 'Lassay-les-Chateaux' Lassay-les-Chateaux is a beautiful town about 11km from the gites and has just about one of the best preserved medieval chateaux in the whole of France. The town prides itself on being one of France's "Cités de Caractère" and has a delightful rose garden. A great place to enjoy an impromtu picnic or you can sample one of the bars or restaurants in the town centre. 'Le Mans' About an hour and a half away, a great day out especially if it is around the Le Mans 24 hours. For 2015 this will be on 13th and 14th June. Outside of the racing season the motor museum at the circuit is well worth a visit and afterwards you can visit the Cathedral of St. Julien, the old city and enjoy a coffee in one of the squares near the cathedral. 'Mont St. Michel' About an hour and a half away due west, Mont St. Michel is one of France’s greatest tourist attractions. Visit the abbey, dedicated to the Archangel, St. Michael and the various museums. Advisable to set off early as it is host to around 3 million visitors per year. As the name would suggest, it is a mount and is not pushchair or wheelchair friendly. 'The Normandy Landings - Débarquement de Normandie' A great day out is a visit to the Normandy Landing Beaches. If you want to make a day of it, you can start with a visit to Pegasus Bridge. Then travel west along the coast taking in Sword, Juno and finally Gold beaches. This will take you to Arromanches, site of the famous Mulberry B Harbour. There are museums at both Pegasus Bridge and Arromanches which are well worth a visit. Finally, travel down to nearby Bayeux and visit the Bayeux Commonwealth War Graves Commission Cemetery which should be a fitting finale to your day out. Public transport is not available as we are in a rural setting so bringing or hiring a car is recommended. If you need details of local taxi services we can provide those. The pool and gardens are shared Pets strictly by arrangement only - please contact us before booking. There is a €15 per week extra payment for each pet to cover additional costs.
