Island retreat for up to 6 guests
Get away from it all and relax in our 7-room house on the remote island of Strynø (population 220). No internet, no TV, no advertising, no traffic and no crime. Get inspired. Please send us a note inquiring about availability before booking. Originally the island's shop, our family house now includes a modern kitchen and bathroom, plus three sleeping rooms. 7 night minimum stay. Maximum of 6 people. In the spirit of "getting away from it all", there is no television or internet connection. However, there is mobile phone coverage over the entire island. You will have access to a large garden that includes a toddlers' sandpit, swing, playhouse and tree-house. Feel free to browse a collection of English and Danish books, including children's books in both languages. We are always available by phone or email. A local friend will help you settle in and will be available in case you have any questions during your stay. Being so remote, everybody on the island knows each other. There is no crime (not even a uniformed policeman). Almost everybody speaks English and there is a large number of foreigners resident on the island. The Smakke Centre (a 5 minute walk away) provides canoes, kayaks and sailing boats for hire and offers lessons for beginners to explore the beautifully calm waters of the surrounding Baltic. The island is so small (5 square kilometers) that transport on the island is unnecessary. To get to and from the island, a 28-minute ferry runs between Rudkøbing and Strynø. There are a couple of places to eat on the island, a beautiful old church (Lutheran) and an inn. Swimming, fishing, sailing, canoeing and kayaking are all popular from mid-Spring to mid-Autumn. There's enough to do if you're so inclined. Please note: The house is not heated (we only rent it out from late spring to early Autumn) unless by prior arrangement. Contact us before booking if you believe you will need heating.
