Tennis Court Cottage
In an annex of a family home, this is a smart self-contained room with its own entrance and en-suite bathroom plus small kitchen. As you enter, there is an entrance lobby with room for coats, luggage and shoes, another door brings you into the bedroom. The room can be set up as a twin (as pictured) or as a single. Through the other door is a small kitchen with microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster, and table. The listing also comes with a private car parking space on the gravel drive. The room is newly decorated in calm and pretty lilacs and blues, with a sitting area corner, with velvet armchair, long-pile rug, smart tv (Netflix, Amazon, iplayer & all streaming channels), bookshelves and floor lamp. The bedroom also has a small wardrobe, two-drawer sideboard, large wall mirror, a bedside table and window. The en-suite bathroom has good hot shower, sink and loo and a large mirror. The bedroom is attached to the side of the main house, but there are two doors separating it - both will remain locked (one from inside the house and one from inside the bedroom). A small kitchen has been added, with limited cooking facilities, including a microwave, fridge, toaster and kettle. Tea, coffee, milk, and a variety of cereals are provided. Please note that there is no sink or washing machine. We find that most guests choose to eat out at the variety of bars and restaurants nearby, so the space is designed for breakfasts, snacks, and the occassional meal. For this reason, the kitchen is not suitable for long-term bookings. We have a large gravel driveway that can accomodate up to six cars, so parking is not a problem. The High Street is just a short walk over the canal bridge. We live in the adjoining house, and are available at all times for help, advice, and suggestions. Feel free to knock on our door any time. Our house is right in the centre of historic Berkhamsted, from the door you can see Canal Fields park and the Grand Union Canal. Next door on one side is a squash and tennis club, the other side is just one neighbour and then a Lawn Bowls club. Use the bridge outside the house to cross the canal and you will be in the town centre: Berkhamsted High Street with its shops, cafes, restaurant and pubs (and market on Weds & Sats) is a mere 3 min walk away. Want to travel to London? Then all you need to do is walk 4 minutes through the park to reach Berkhamsted train station. Trains are approx every 20 minutes and take 35 minutes. Just beyond the station is the remains of Berkhamsted castle - built in 1066 by William the Conquerer. Want to stay local? Stroll down the canal tow path and stop at one of the many old canal-side pubs for a pint or a bite to eat. Love Harry Potter? The Warner Brothers Studio (Harry Potter Tour) is only a 15 min drive away - or 10 mins on the train. A short drive up the hill takes you to The Ashridge Estate and The Chiltern Hills with picturesque villages and country walks galore. As mentioned the house is only a 4 min walk away from Berkhamsted train station which is a direct train route into London. Berkhamsted is situated in a valley of the Chiltern Hills. Up the valley (you can walk it) is the National Trust: Ashridge Estate. Lovely for walks and very popular with bike riders. In your room we'll leave informtion of all the best walks, cafes, restaurants, pubs, day trips...etc. We are also on hand to offer suggestions.
