Cosy Cotswold Cottage by the Tiniest Village Green
NOTE: MINIMUM STAY IS 20 NIGHTS (30% DISCOUNT on 28+ NIGHTS) A glorious, spacious, and cosy 4-bedroom cottage with free parking located in the heart of the stunning Cotswolds. Found in Little Rissington, a small village only two miles (40 mins by footpath) from the picturesque town of Bourton-on-the-Water, this cottage is perfect for a relaxing countryside getaway or a walking holiday. The kitchen has a traditional Aga, warming the stone floors day and night, and the living room has a fireplace for those nights when only watching a film snuggled under rugs will do! The Master Bedroom comes with an ensuite shower, while the ensuite for Bedroom 2 has a luxurious bathtub. There is a comfortable workspace set up downstairs and the smallest bedroom also doubles as an office/study. Video calls are used by the many homeworkers in the neighbourhood - with an average 50 Mbps upload and download on fibre-optic cable. This can be upgraded to 100, 300 or 900 Mbps on request. In the words of two young London professionals who came for four weeks and stayed for five months during lockdown: "The cottage provides the perfect escape to the country. It’s spacious, yet cosy and easy to feel at home right away. The kitchen with Aga is well equipped for home-cooking, everything you might need from lazy breakfasts to dinner parties. Also a great spot to work from home and stay warm in the winter months. The living room with log fire is charming with very comfy sofas for resting after a long day out walking (not all Airbnbs have such comfy living spaces!) The master bedroom with en-suite (monsoon shower) is quiet, warm and has lovely views of the village green - when the blossom and flowers are out it’s a delightful aspect. The three smaller bedrooms are great for guests or small children - we used one as a home office - which is a great way to separate work from home life. Helped by the office chair and excellent wi-fi. There’s plenty of storage space so you can unpack and feel at home. And the second bathroom with bath is a treat. The location is ideal with wonderful walks from the door. Passing the church to walk to Wyck Rissington is charming or across the fields to Great Rissington or Clapton were particular favourites of ours. It’s easy to drive to neighbouring villages for more walks - helpful walking books are in the house but it’s easy to find lots of footpaths (and the OS app came in helpful). Having a parking space makes life easy for the village. And the garden is a lovely spot and sun trap, perfect for a day at home in the sun. The landlord is helpful, generous and always quick to reply. It’s the perfect combination of feeling well looked after by a good neighbour whilst maintaining the privacy of a home. Whilst we didn’t get to enjoy the local pubs (because of lockdown) there are several within walking distance. As well as nearby towns for shopping and supplies. We cannot recommend this cottage and Little Rissington enough. A real country idyl and wonderful, homely place to stay. " The cottage has parking for two cars. Some guests have even managed three. There is a bus that stops 100m from the cottage, but it only runs on Fridays - search Pulhams Coaches online. The co-host will be available throughout the stay, in the neighbouring house. A few hundred metres north of the cottage is the historic St Peter's Church. Built in the 12th century, the church is a beautiful building with its simple interior, stained glass windows, and moving memorial to RAF servicemen. Leave the RAF memorial and pass to the far west corner of the churchyard; there the ground falls away to provide a lovely view over fields to the vale below towards Bourton-on-the-Water. The parking area is big enough for two cars. Guest parking is also available in front of the cottage. Some good walking routes are to Bourton-on-the-Water, taking around an hour through the fields and along the lake, arriving in the town for some afternoon tea, ice cream, or fish 'n chips! Or, walk for a similar amount of time in the other direction to The Lamb Inn for a traditional English roast and a pint. We recommend the Wild Rabbit in Kingham for casual food in the cosy bar area with two log fires or fine dining in the restaurant. Also, there's The Slaughters Country Inn, an hour's quiet walk away in Lower Slaughter. For upmarket fine cuisine, try the Feathered Nest in Westcote. The phone signal in this area is poor, so we use Vodafone Wifi Calling for mobile network calls. (Finding a high spot outside works too!)
