Riverside Guest Annexe
Riverside guest annexe is in a secluded garden next to the River Leven, but only 50m from the centre of Great Ayton, with its shops, pubs, cafes, take-aways and Tourist Information. The annexe is attached to our house, but has its own entrance, patio, garden area and parking space. We can accommodate 2 adults comfortably, plus a third adult or up to 2 children on our pull-out and/or sofa bed. We provide bedding, towels and toiletries. No smoking or pets are permitted in the annexe. Riverside has its own private entrance which opens into a small sitting room with sofa bed, coffee table and wall-mounted tv. The sitting room leads through to the bedroom with a super-king or two 3ft single beds, optional pull out bed, and en-suite shower room. The bedroom has a wall-mounted tv, kettle, toaster, small refrigerator and mugs, plates, bowls and cutlery for preparing simple breakfasts and snacks, and for serving take-aways. We provide complimentary teabags, instant coffee, fresh milk, bread and jams. Croissants, pastries and breakfast rolls are available from a take-away just across the road, and cooked breakfasts are available at several local cafes/pubs. The patio has a table and chairs and is pleasant place to sit in the summer to enjoy the garden and the sound of the waterfall while having a drink, eating a take-away, or having a bbq. We only allow the use of disposable bbq’s (bring you own or we can supply at cost) sitting on bricks (provided) on the patio. If the sun gets too hot or it starts to rain there is an awning that can be pulled out to provide protection. There is a private, gravelled parking area one large or two small cars, and there is free off-street parking just outside our entrance. Guests have sole use of a patio and large area of garden. Barbara and I live in the main part of the house but the setting of the annexe means you will probably not see (or hear) us during your stay, unless you want to of course! If we see you, we may greet you on arrival, but you can let yourselves in using our key box. We provide a folder that includes suggestions of what to do locally, but are always keen to make personal recommendations if you ask. Great Ayton is on the edge of the North York Moors National Park and close to the North Yorkshire Coast. The village has 2 traditional pubs, 3 micro-pubs, 3 cafes, and several shops, including a supermarket, bakery, butchers (selling famous Petch’s pies), and Suggitt’s ice-cream & sweet shop. A short drive takes you into beautiful countryside, many lovely villages, the Moors Visitor Centre, and seaside resorts, including Whitby and Saltburn-by-the-Sea. Many local walks start from our front door, some easy, some a little more challenging, including the ascents of Roseberry Topping and Captain Cooks Monument. We welcome cyclists and provide secure cycle storage in our locked garage. Walking or cycling from the doorstep gets you to lovely local countryside and cafes. There is a bus stop on the High Green where the “Moors Bus” can be caught in the summer months along with limited local bus services. There is a train station just under 1 mile away, from where passengers can take a scenic rail journey through the Moors to Whitby, or in the other direction to Middlesbrough to connect with national rail services. Small children should never be left unattended in our grounds as we are not enclosed and have a river on one boundary, a (sometimes busy) road just outside our entrance, and a small pond in the private part of our garden.
