The Aunt's House
We never met the Aunt, but we think we would have liked her. In our minds, she was a true British eccentric – stylish and witty, well-travelled and well loved. We adore this house, with its generous proportions, including a glorious eat-in kitchen and separate boot room for muddy wellies. We’ve added two bright, airy bedrooms in the eves, both with window seats, upping the total bedrooms to five, all of them en-suite, including a large, luxurious wet room (complete with a heated bench) in the master bath. There’s wallpaper galore and hand printed fabrics, design details that we feel speak to the elegant history of the house. Our most spacious property: the Aunts House sleeps 10 (with ample room for a few travel cots) in 5 bedrooms over 3 floors. On the ground floor, there is a boot/utility room, a large eat-in, open plan kitchen with a big gorgeous dining room table with lots of seating, and a light filled sitting room. Bedrooms are on the 1st and 2nd floors, including a family bedroom at the top. There is a large enclosed garden, small orchard and a beautiful paved outdoor entertaining space with dining furniture and BBQ. We love Lydhurst because of the trees, because of the views, because of the varied architecture of the buildings; because of the bluebells in the woods and the sheep in the fields. We love the history. The landscape; the way it makes us feel. Lydhurst is a family owned country estate in West Sussex. Nestling in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and renowned for its far-reaching views across the South Downs, Lydhurst is a picturesque landscape punctuated with intimate areas of woodland, formal gardens, lakes and parkland. You'll be amazed how close you can be to London and still feel so blessedly far from it all. Designed as a haven, Lydhurst was for generations a place for a lucky few to enjoy. We want to expand this legacy and share this enjoyment with others. Our vision for Lydhurst is founded in easy enjoyment, conservation, enhancement, and understanding; with our foremost objective being to care for this extraordinary landscape. We think being here is a welcome retreat from time pressures, digital domination, closed-in horizons. We hope that when you are with us you can relax, reconnect with the natural environment; step back, recalibrate and reboot. But don’t worry, we have have good wifi too! Whether you like your nature close up, or mostly through a window next to a cosy fire, it’s good to re-connect. On the estate you will see grazing cattle and working farm machinery, along with a team of dedicated gardeners and our estate manager. Many of the team live on site. We are all committed to maintaining and promoting the English countryside and are passionate about land stewardship and conservation. We founded Lydhurst Cottages with the hope that we could share these properties and offer guests the opportunity to enjoy this wonderful part of the world. Coming back from the city with our two young children has reinforced to us just how important a bit of wilderness is. We want our guests to relax, to unwind, to breathe. To take walks (maybe even get a little lost) and to discover what we already know – that this is a special place and that we are lucky to be part of its story. If you would like to learn more about Lydhurst and what we do, please get in touch. Lydhurst is a private, gated estate so you'll be met at the gates on arrival. Once inside, whether you’re looking to organise a glorious family holiday or simply want a quiet weekend away, Lydhurst has a selection of in-house, on estate, amenities to keep you entertained. The grounds of Lydhurst are a wonderful mix of formal gardens, parkland and woodland. We are blessed with numerous specimen trees and shrubs, flowering bushes, a rock garden and many, many idyllic spots for quiet contemplation. We encourage all of our guests to enjoy long walks around the estate, incorporating both woodland walks through public footpaths and the meandering paths amongst the gardens. Perhaps you might want to take a picnic one afternoon and lunch under a gentleman oak tree or go for a morning run amongst the bluebells? Warninglid is in the heart of West Sussex in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We are in wine country; very close to Bolney Estate, Coolhurst, Wiston and Ridge View vineyards. Brighton and the South Downs are 25 minutes away by car to the South. Gatwick is 20 mins to the North and Lewes and Arundel are each about 40 mins away (East and West respectively). Our nearest train stations are either Haywards Heath or Horsham (each about 6 miles away). Both stations have good train lines into and out of London (Victoria, London Bridge, Blackfriars). It is easy to get a taxi from either Haywards Heath or Horsham station to Warninglid. Gatwick Airport train station (South Terminal) also has the Gatwick Express (30 mins to and from Victoria). Each cottage has ample, private, off-street parking. Our Pricing! Although Airbnb displays a 'per night' price, that isn't how we calculate our prices. We price based on a week - parts of a week attract a percentage of that weekly price so 8 nights will therefore be very expensive for the extra night, and 6 nights really not much of a saving. Weekends are our busiest time and we charge the same price for a weekend if you stay one night or three. Who wants to hurry to get up and leave on a Sunday if it's looking to be a lovely day? Stay, relax, leave anytime before 10am on the Monday.
