Set in the hills between Lucca and Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, Casa Tamara will suck you into the super-relaxing business of watching shifting patterns of light and colour across the Serchio valley and Apuan Alps beyond. You can start your day drinking it all in from either bedroom – both have Juliet balconies – from the large shaded terrace, the wooden table in the garden handcrafted by the owner, or even the private pool, all of which look straight on to this glorious view. With accommodation for two to four people, the villa’s uncluttered interior, wheelchair-accessible bathroom and stair-aid also make it an option for any who struggle with mobility. Spring, when the blossom is out, would be a particularly lovely time to visit this well-kept property – it is located on a small farm that grows fruit and vegetables – or come later to enjoy fresh cherries and other produce. If you’re artistically inclined, set up your drawing board at home or take a short drive to the 11th-century Ponte della Maddalena. Our Thoughts Casa Tamara’s elegant simplicity is sure to bring wonderful memories, whether that’s dinner on the terrace taking in those views after a day out exploring or relaxing by the pool with a good book. Those artistically inclined will be spoilt for subjects to sketch. The villa’s accessibility puts it into a league of its own for anyone physically challenged, but this should not put off others: few will fail to appreciate its hardwood floors, contemporary kitchen and romantic loggia. Notes Two bedrooms. Two bathrooms. The owners live in the neighbouring villa and occasionally use the pool. They have three small dogs and are happy for guests to bring pets. They also produce and sell fruit and vegetables, homemade jams and olive oil, which you can buy. The property is not fenced. There is a bathroom adapted for guests with limited mobility and a stair aid is available. The gardens have sloped areas for easy access but there are steps to the pool. Parking - 2 unsheltered parking space. Pool To reach the pool, it is necessary to pass the owners’ house, but it is overlooked by only one window. The pool has a furnished, paved surround, shower and fantastic views. The water is entered via Roman steps. Guests have access to a nearby bathroom. Pool size: 10m x 4m, 1.55m deep. Open May to October, weather permitting. The owners may occasionally use the pool.
