Hurst Farm - Room 3
Beautifully rural, yet within easy reach of Central London, Gatwick, Heathrow and the Channel ports. Chartwell, Hever and Penshurst are all close at hand. Room 3 at Hurst Farm nestles cosily in the eaves on the second floor and can be used in conjunction with Room 2 (separate listing) as a family suite. Superfast broadband makes it ideal for business travellers too. Limited in storage space, but there are hanging rails and underbed storage boxes. En-suite wetroom. We are a storybook farm, with a mixture of livestock and arable; orchards, fields and woods. The main farmhouse was built sometime between 1390 and 1410, with various more recent additions throughout the centuries, culminating with the recently completed guest accommodation. There are a number of Victorian outbuildings, including a traditional Kentish oasthouse. Currently we have a small herd of prize-winning rare breed cattle, a flock of tenant sheep, four chickens, a cat, a dog and some Koi. We run a productive kitchen garden, a cobnut platt and opened an outdoor swimming pool in June 2016. We even have our own ‘henge’, a group of sitting stones at the top of the hill, reputedly installed by a Victorian farmer so he could picnic with his family and survey his land. There are some beautiful walks across our own 120 acres, and in the summer there may the opportunity to play on our grass tennis court. In addition to the en-suite bedroom, guests have shared use of the guest kitchen/reception room. The kitchen is well equipped for preparing snacks and simple meals. There is a big leather sofa from which to enjoy the view over the surrounding countryside and admire the sunset. Outside there is a huge outdoor pool, gardens, orchards, fields, woodlands and ponds, all of which guests are welcome to enjoy. We are a 10-minute walk down a bridlepath from the centre of the Kentish village of Crockham Hill, where you will find the pub, church, village hall and primary school. There are numerous beautiful walks from the farm gate. There is very little public transport near us. The nearest railway stations require a taxi ride to reach the farm. They are Edenbridge, Edenbridge Town and Oxted. We recommend you have a car when visiting, though we are happy to order taxis for you.
