The entrance to the town, a path cutting between the lakes, can be quite spectacular, especially when reflecting the dawn or evening sunset skies. Sometimes, flocks of flamingoes can be spotted on the nearby lakes hunting down their favourite food: prawns, which give th flamingoes their fabulous pink colouring. Originally a rural village on the outskirts of Monastir, Sahline grew into a town on the back of the hotels built on its white sand coast, referred to as the resort of Skanes. Its high streets offer high quality local produce and a fantastic array of fish, meat, fruits and vegetables along with the usual bustle of tourist resorts, while quieter walks are only the turn of a corner away. Minutes walk away, are a wide variety of cafes and restaurants. You can have a delicious meal from as little as £3. There are also fashion shops, craft and jewellery shops. A number of nearby sauna hammams offer traditional sauna and massage. Glorious sandy beaches are fifteen minutes walk away. The nearby metro which goes to Sousse, Monastir and Mahdia, as well as the private taxi and louage services make car hire unnecessary for anyone wanting a relaxing beach holiday with occasional outings to the nearby towns of Sousse and Monastir, both of which are only a 20 minute taxi ride away. (Taxi rates are very affordable here. The rides to Sousse and Monastir in a louage, or shared taxi, cost circa 30 pence, and in a private taxi circa £3). For those wanting to explore, Sahline is located near to many places of interest. The ancient city of Kairouan is 45 minutes drive away, as is the Amphitheatre of El Jem.
