Carolina Matthews, an author who lived in Langatha for over fifty years, restored this house as her own home, with the help of local craftsmen in the traditional Island style, winning a preservation award for it from the Amorgos Society of Athens. It's location on the edge of the village with stunning views of the Aegean and neighboring villages is perfect for quiet contemplation, writing, art and remote work. The cozy living room with wooden floors and ceilings looks out on the spacious terrace with views of the sea and a distant village: the perfect place to watch the sun set over the mountains of Naxos, or peaceful reading under an umbrella. The spacious double bedroom is attached to the living room and there are two single beds in the spacious lower rooms. The fully stocked kitchen has a 3-ring stove, refrigerator and microwave oven. The bathroom has a shower and also a clothes washing machine. The shower has a hot water heater and there is an electric kettle in the kitchen for dish washing. Langatha is a traditional island village with winding pathways and only a few roads. Arrival at the house requires a 5-minute walk from the central square down the whitewashed village steps. Free parking near the square is plentiful and it is also the location of the bus stop and taxi drop-off. Transportation options and directions to the house will be sent to you as your booking time comes close. Iakovos is available for help and advice The picturesque mountain village of Langada, whose inhabitants we have known for years, welcomes visitors. The family run cafes and restaurants serve excellent food and the stores provide for many of your needs. It is quiet and serene. There are many wonderful hiking trails and interesting sites to visit nearby. During the high season, there are buses between Langada and the port of Aegiali and the beach as well as other villages. A stone paved mule track leads in about 35 minutes to the beach. It is easy to rent cars and scooters from local companies, but not necessary. A link to transportation options will be sent to you once you have booked your stay, If possible guests should arrive at the port of Aegiali, a ten minute taxi ride from Langada. Those arriving at Katapola, the port at the other end of the island, will take forty minutes by taxi or Bus (search for the "Amorgos Bus Company"). Before your arrival you will be given information about confirming your transportation details and reaching our team to make sure you get to the house easily. For larger groups this home can be combined with "Henry's Traditional Island House on Amorgos", also available on Airbnb.
