Half Moon Cottage is a Grade II listed building, over 300 years old, and was once an old Coaching Inn. It is a charming and comfortable place to stay, centrally located in the market town of Reeth. There are beautiful views from every window out onto the surrounding Yorkshire Dales and over the very pretty village green. Half Moon Cottage underwent thorough renovations in summer 2018, including redecoration throughout, new carpeting and modernisation of the lighting and heating. We wanted to retain all the charm, beauty and provenance of this old cottage, whilst embracing the comforts and benefits of modern living. In June 2020 the bathroom was completely ripped out and a fabulous new suite fitted, along with new tiles and floor, to enhance your stay. Check out the pictures please. Its walls and doorways may be a little crooked in places, but that's why we love the place! It's perfect for couples who are in search of a quiet and romantic getaway, but the spacious interior and facilities also make it an excellent place for groups of friends or families to stay. The kitchen is modern and well equipped for a self-catering holiday. There is an oven and hob, toaster, microwave, kettle, Nespresso coffee machine, fridge and freezer. Coffee is provided. There are plenty of plates, mugs, glasses and cookware. The kitchen / living area is open plan and perfect for preparing relaxed meals, socialising and winding down in the evenings. Seating is at the kitchen counter. In the living room there is an open fire, complete with traditional oven. There’s a plentiful supply of logs at the local store just across the green. One of the sofas in the living room converts to a sofa bed (if required). Upstairs, there are two double bedrooms with beautiful countryside views from the windows. The bathroom benefits from a bath and over-bath shower. You may need to use the Boost Button on the water system as the water tank isn’t huge. Please take care on the stairs, both outside and inside, as they can be uneven in places. Access to the front door is on the second storey of the building, up a flight of stone steps. Well behaved dogs are welcome at the cottage, but please do not allow your dog in or on the beds. Please wipe muddy paws after being outside if you can. Dogs are not permitted to be left in the cottage alone at any time, even if crated. I do not live in the area but have contacts in the area that I can reach in the event of an emergency that cannot be dealt with over the phone. Reeth is a peaceful village with a large green at its centre, where markets and traditional events are often held. There are a number of country pubs within walking distance of the cottage, as well as an ice-cream shop, a bakery and tea rooms. There is a tourist information centre a few steps from the cottage, if you turn right out of the door. There are many stunning walks and trails in the local area, varying in length from gentle strolls along the Swale paths, to day long routes, taking the energetic to the summits of Great Shunner Fell, Lovely seat and Addlebrough. Richmond, Barnard Castle, Leyburn and Hawes are all within half an hours drive, and there is no shortage of eating places in Reeth to enjoy after a long day’s walking or sightseeing. You can park outside the cottage on the cobbled area of the green; the local community ask for a voluntary donation of a pound to assist with the upkeep of the green (there are signs and collection boxes). However, on Fridays there is Market Day on the cobbles and so you will have to park elsewhere on a nearby road on that day.
