Close to the village of John O' Groats and on the North Coast 500, the Old Smiddy (an old blacksmith's cottage) has been beautifully restored into a modern home, while keeping many of its original features. The cottage sleeps 4 people in 2 double bedrooms (both en-suite) and has a fold-away camp bed for use by a small child. The cottage offers beautiful sea views across the Pentland Firth to the Orkney Islands and is the perfect base for exploring Caithness, Sutherland and Orkney. The Old Smiddy has recently been restored into a beautiful modern cottage. The property has a small porch, lobby, an airy living/dining and kitchen area, and two bedrooms, both en-suite. There is a fold-away camp bed available for use by a small child in addition to the two double bedrooms. You will have access to the entire property as well as a large back garden and parking to the side of the cottage. We live opposite the cottage so can be on hand to help with any queries you have during your stay. There is a key safe in the entrance lobby where the keys for the outer door and locked inner door can be found. Kenneth will email the guest prior to arrival with the key safe access code and check in details. Huna is situated 2 miles from the village of John O'Groats in a peaceful rural area with stunning sea views. The Old Smiddy is the perfect base to explore the local scenery, wildlife and tourist attractions around Caithness, Sutherland and the Orkney Islands. In John O' Groats itself, you will find a local hotel/pub, a shop, post office and filling station, as well as gift shops and cafes. In the summer months, a passenger ferry runs from John O' Groats to the Orkney Islands. Gills Bay, 2 miles away from the cottage, has a car ferry over to the Orkney Islands that runs all year round. The local area is best explored using guests' own transport however there are local buses that pass by the cottage that will take you to John O' Groats, the ferries over to the Orkney Islands or into the two local towns, Wick and Thurso. Both Wick and Thurso have train stations which offer services to and from Inverness. Wick also has an airport, Wick/John O' Groats Airport.
