Bright, airy gated private country retreat located next to Digswell Viaduct and within an easy walking distance to Welwyn Garden City. Scenic country walks nearby, close to Hertford, Hitchin, historic St Albans. A short walk to the local train station for direct access to London and Cambridge in less than an hour for business or day trips to visit the sights. Perfectly situated for business professionals or for a relaxing getaway. Great outdoors and traditional country pubs nearby. The Annexe is a large, comfortable, light, warm open plan space with windows on all sides, situated adjacent to the main house inside a safe and secure gated setting. The living area encompasses a sitting room, kitchen and dining area with two separate bedrooms (1 x double bed and 2 x single beds) located on the first floor and a shower room on the ground floor below. There is also an open fire stocked with wood for colder evenings. The sitting area has a three seated sofa, a large armchair and a flat screen television with Amazon Prime and Netflix available accessible via an amazon account. The kitchen is fully fitted with a cooker, fridge, nespresso coffee machine, dishwasher and washing machine (drying facilities are available on request). There is a separate dining space for 4 people (extra chairs available on site). The flat is stocked with complimentary tea, nespresso coffee plus condiments and toiletries. Hairdryer, ironing board and iron are available to use. Additional essentials can be purchased prior to arrival on request. The flat is a separate building adjacent to the Host's property. For longer visits clean sheets and towels provided weekly. Secure parking available for up to 3 cars. Parking available at the property for up to 3 cars. Electric Vehicle (EV) Pod Point Charging cable available for use (small fee payable extra). Key lock box available for self check-in. Host is available if required on site for settling in, any questions or for good general local information and knowledge. This is a popular area for outdoor enthusiasts with many activities for families of all ages. Excellent easy accessible walking and biking in the area with many local footpaths situated adjacent to the property and close to the nearby train station. Guests can walk directly from the property in many directions into open countryside stopping at local pubs for lunch and then continue on. Tewinbury Farm located on the River Mimram, is a very short 30 minute walk directly across the fields, where there is outdoor dining and tea and coffee served durning the day. There are fabulous views of the famous viaduct across the fields and some heavy wooded areas which are especially popular in late Spring when bluebells are in bloom. There is a cafe at the local station serving hot and cold drinks (latte, cappuccino, teas etc.) and pastries and sandwiches open from very early morning to 2pm, 7 days a week. There is a village shop opposite the station for all basic amenities also open 7 days a week. Also walking distance from the flat is a children's playground for younger guests and an open playing field for football, rounders etc. It is a short scenic 20 minute walk for guests working in the nearby town of Welwyn Garden City or 1 stop on the train which runs regularly from the local train station which is a 5 minute walk from the house. Welwyn Garden City has a number of shops and restaurants, with outdoor seated dining. The town is set around a pretty garden layout and in the summer has an outdoor cinema for anyone to watch. John Lewis in the town is open 7 days a week. A 15 minute drive away are the delightful, traditional market towns of Hertford and Ware (to the East). Both situated on the River Lee with canal walking or bike trails from Hertford all the way along the canal to Canary Wharf if the mood takes you. Near Hertford spend time in Pansanger Park part of the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust and or walk from Hertford to Ware through the Amwell Nature Reserve also part of the Wildlife Trust. These are excellent flat walking and cycling routes for everyone. A 15 minute drive north are the equally fabulous market towns are Hitchin and Letchworth which is the original garden city. Some lovely small independent shops, vegetarian and vegan cafes open most days. Bike trails, skateboard park and many local walking routes. Close by is the famous Brocket Hall which has two award winning golf courses. Guests can apply for day memberships in advance. The Auberge du Lac is situated at Brocket Hall and is open for lunch and dinner. Alternatively there are a number of excellent pubs and restaurants nearby, many within walking distance and others a short drive. The Brocket Arms in Ayot St Lawrence is a popular spot for walkers and visitors to Shaw's Corner, which is managed by the National Trust and was the primary residence of the playwright George Bernard Shaw. Each year plays are put on to the public in the gardens. The Knebworth Estate is close by and both the house and grounds are open to the public. There are some public walks through the grounds with views of the main house across the fields. Hatfield House in the opposite direction is also worth a visit, again with house and gardens open to the public, a large playing area and farm petting zoo for younger children and a well run cafe serving drinks, hot and cold food, cake and cream teas. For those interested in the Roman history, next to the property are the Welwyn Roman Baths and farther a field in St Albans are the much grander Roman Theatre, Verulamium Museum and Park and the very magnificent St Albans Cathederal in the town with the popular street market every Wednesday and Saturday. Harpenden is close by St Albans and is a popular trendy town with cafes, independent shops, restaurants serving a variety of food, an open heath with local farmers markets and village fairs. Further east a drive away is the wonderful Henry Moore Foundation in the village of Perry Green with a number of his famous sculptures placed in the large gardens. There is a lovely onsite cafe selling drinks, cakes and light lunches. Every year the Foundation couples with other artists and displays a variety of works associated with Henry Moore. Previous years have included works by Rodin and Damien Hurst. Due to Covid 19 booking is essential on the website. Secure parking for up to 3 cars available at the property. Local train station is a 5 minute walk with trains twice an hour south into London, or north to Cambridge. There is a taxi service at the station also and taxis to and from the airport - Luton (20 minutes), Stanstead (45 minutes) or Heathrow (60 minutes). The train into London takes 30 minutes to Finsbury Park (Victoria and Piccadilly tube lines) and 35 minutes to London Kings Cross (all tube lines). The train to Cambridge takes approximately 60 minutes and the drive is 45 minutes. Netflix and Amazon Prime via Amazon account. Wifi, mobile data and data roaming accessible.
