House in the medina with sea views
Three-storey house with two terraces and sea views in the middle of the old Medina of Larache. Two minutes walk from a guarded parking lot. Near the beach, Larache´s beach across the river. Quiet place where to enjoy a friendly atmosphere and good cuisine. It has a full kitchen where you can prepare your own food or have it prepared by one of the best cooks in Larache, Karima. The house is old and, although it has been renovated, it retains all its essence. It is accessed under a narrow street through an old typical Moroccan door of light blue color, with studs and a large iron knocker. It consists of three floors connected by a staircase with a half-height wall of tiles. On the ground floor there is a spacious entrance and to one side a living room-bedroom with a semicircular arch, and a bathroom. On the first floor is the master bedroom, which is located just above the street and in which the most unique feature, in addition to the two Andalusian-style balconies, are the mural paintings from the end of the 19th century that imitate large steles like a trompe l'oeil marble with decoration of palmettes and wooden baseboards. Another bedroom with two typical Moroccan beds, and the bathroom with a small shower. Going up we access the living room with a dining area and sitting area next to a fireplace. The very bright kitchen has two windows, one facing the street and another to a small terrace with direct access from the living room and the kitchen, where you can also have breakfast and dinner when the weather is good (much of the year), Going up another staircase we reach the roof terrace with beautiful views of the mouth of the river and Ras Ramel beach, the closest to Larache. On the terrace you will find during the summer period a chill out area where you can enjoy the rest and the sea breeze. There is also a work area with sink and worktop to make the most of the terrace. The house is inside the medina in the neighborhood called Bab Bhar (door of the sea) It is a quiet neighborhood of humble people who are mostly dedicated to fishing. The people are characterized by their friendliness and being very welcoming to tourists. You can walk through its medina with complete peace of mind and enjoy a good tea with mint in any of its numerous cafeterias, as well as taste good freshly caught fish or shellfish thanks to its important fishing fleet. The fruit and vegetables from its rich orchard are also exquisite, not to mention its wonderful sweets with honey and almonds... The city has a privileged enclave, a veritable balcony open to the Atlantic. And the house located in the medina enjoys spectacular views of the mouth of the Lucus River and the sea. The area also has a great historical richness due to its different settlements that have left their mark, preserving castles and important excavations from the Phoenician and Roman times (Lixus). It is worth stopping at the mouth of the Lucus, a marshy area where waterfowl fauna abounds. It is ideal for lovers of ornithology. If you do not bring your own vehicle, it is easy to get around the city on foot, and if you want to go to the beach you can take a boat that leaves from a point near the house, next to the port and in 10 minutes you cross the Lucus and arrive at the beach, or take a taxi whose stop is about 10 minutes walk and in half an hour you arrive. The prices are very affordable, you can also share a taxi, even cheaper. If you go to other cities with Tangier, Asilah, Rabat or Tetouan, you can also use the bus or taxi, the station is about 15 minutes walk from the house.
