Green Dragon Cottage

Green Dragon Cottage is set in a quiet backroad just North of Diss (10 minutes), sitting at the gateway to the picturesque Waveney Valley. The cottage sleeps up to five guests and is created from former stables and blacksmiths forge. The conversion retains many historic features including wooden beams and pamment tiles, yet with modern amenities including WiFi and underfloor heated bathroom. The cottage has a private entrance and parking and is ideal for families, sat in our peaceful 3.5 acres. The cottage has its own private and secure off street parking, a child friendly outside space with seating and an outdoor BBQ. A private entrance leads directly to the modern fully fitted kitchen with a hob and oven available for your use and all the crockery, cutlery and cooking vessels required for your stay. A welcome basket with essentials (tea and coffee, milk, sugar, bread or croissants, butter and eggs) along with a basket of firewood will be laid out to greet you. Internet access is available within the property. Feel free to look around the other fields and pick our apples or pears, we always have too many! The best blackberries can be found next to the woodshed. Other people renting Green Dragon Glamping on the other side of the farm may also be exploring the site so please keep your dog on a lead outside the cottage fencing and off the furniture inside. Your point of contact for the duration of your stay will be the owner, Tony, who lives in the 16th Century farmhouse next door. He will be available to hand over the cottage keys on arrival, show you around and can help with any recommendations needed. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic we will undertake enhanced cleaning at the end of each stay. If you have particular concerns or requirements for additional social distancing on arrival or during your stay we will make arrangements to meet your needs (i.e. keys will be cleaned and can be picked up from a static location, a walk through tour of the property can be provided over the phone or you can just discover the delights of the property independently ... adds to the adventure!) Green Dragon Cottage is located in a peaceful backwater with an abundance of wildlife on its doorstep (deer, hares, rabbits, foxes, birds, etc). Although rural it is by no means isolated with the quaint town of Diss only three miles to the south which has a Friday market, 13th Century church, and wealth of local shops and boutiques. Discovering the secret alleyways off the main road filled with unique shops and cafes is a real delight, as is Bressingham Steam Museum and Gardens. Diss Rail Station has regular trains between Norwich (20 minutes) and London (1 hour 30 minutes), and is 10 minutes drive from the cottage. Travelling by car is easiest due to our rural location but we are well connected throughout Norfolk and Suffolk. Thetford Forest is half an hour away, as is Norwich. The Norfolk Broads are 40 minutes and the coast is an hour, particularly good beaches are Hemsby or Sea Palling to the East. The area has many beautiful walks and footpaths (including to our local pub in Winfarthing) and OS maps of further afield are available within the cottage. The local pub (The Fighting Cocks, Winfarthing) is a short 15min stroll along farmers fields. The Burston Crown is good 40min walk or 5min drive. The backroads around Green Dragon Cottage are ideal for cycling so feel free to bring your bikes or rent them locally from Needham Market (we can lend you a bike rack). Secure storage is available within the private grounds of the cottage or under cover in a small outbuilding. Heating is supplied by the wood burning stove in the sitting/dining room, a small wood burning stove in the master bedroom, underfloor heating in the bathroom and additional freestanding electric heaters in the bedrooms. A BBQ and separate fire pit are available to use. Additional firewood for either the wood burning stove or for the fire pit can be purchased from the owner at £5 for a good sized box. A large dog crate is available to borrow if required. We are happy to welcome one medium/large or two small well-behaved house trained dogs per booking. The main bedroom with the king size four poster bed has two large skylights, they make the room lovely and bright during the day but do let the early morning light in. If you’re very sensitive to early morning light it might be an idea to bring an eye mask.
