A unique opportunity to stay in one of Derbyshire’s historic country homes; Riber Hall Manor. Riber Hall dates from the 1400’s. This beautifully restored Elizabethan manor house is situated in Riber, a tiny hamlet in the Derbyshire Dales. It is alleged Mary Queen of Scots was detained in Riber Hall. In 1724, the hall was split it into two halves. Here is your opportunity to stay in the hidden secret side of Riber Hall with its deep history and authentic English country charm. The hidden secret of Riber Hall Manor. Built by the Ribergh family, this Grade II* listed Elizabethan manor house was home to the famous Derbyshire Wolley family until 1668. During the Civil War, Riber Hall was a royalist stronghold and it is rumoured that a secret passageway exists from the hall to Dethick where the Babington’s lived. Anthony Babington was an English nobleman who was convicted of plotting the assassination of Elizabeth 1st of England and conspiring with the imprisoned Mary, Queen of Scots. It is alleged Mary Queen of Scots was detained in Riber Hall and indeed one of our bedrooms would suggest this. By 1724, the hall was owned by the Chappel family and two sisters divided the hall and split it into two halves. One half of this romantic home was previously known as a highly regarded country house hotel. Meanwhile, the other untouched side seems to have been forgotten over the years, until now. Here is your opportunity to stay in the hidden secret side of Riber Hall with authentic and fascinating English country charm, plus a deep history that we love to share with our guests.
