SELF CONTAINED WITH OWN FRONT DOOR with rural views from two cosy, quiet double bedrooms. Sit by a lovely pond visited by birds and dragonflies, and bats at dusk. Ancient village with 12th-century church and an old village pub serving excellent food. 2 miles from station— trains take 1h14m to London, 12m to Oxford. Osborne House, built around 1790, is situated on the edge of the Cotswolds and is the perfect base from which to explore Oxford and nearby Blenheim Palace. You have at your disposal an entirely self-contained two double bedroom apartment attached to our family home but accessible via its own separate entrance, so you can be as private as you wish. On the ground floor is a newly-fitted kitchen and a comfortable sitting area with TV. Wireless internet access is available throughout. Upstairs there are two lovely bedrooms, the first with views towards the village church, and the second looking out over neighbouring fields. Both have double beds, and a separate single mattress can also be made available if required. There is a new bathroom with a shower over the bath; towels are supplied. Besides your own private patio area in front of your part of the property, you also have (shared) access to the entire garden and pond. In all, the grounds are about a third of an acre. Much of the time I will be here to show you around or will catch up with you later if I am out. After that, we'll leave you alone to soak up the atmosphere. If you need anything, or want advice on what to see or do, we're only next door. Church Hanborough is among the prettiest villages of its size in Oxfordshire, set amidst gorgeous countryside, with invigorating walks through fields and woodland, and all just 20 minutes' drive from the dreaming spires of Oxford. The Hand and Shears pub is next door where lunch and evening meals are served (see their website for a menu). They also do very good takeaway fish and chips. There is parking on the property. The venue is not really suitable without a car unless you are prepared to take a taxi/walk to the station. Hanborough station is just a few minutes drive away, with direct trains to Oxford and London in one direction, and to Worcester and Malvern (with Elgar's Malvern Hills) in the other. It's a long walk from Hanborough but can be done. Parking in the centre of Oxford is extremely difficult so a better alternative is to park in Eynsham, about two miles away, and take the more regular 15-minute bus service to Oxford - the S1 is the name of the bus and the bus stop is just past the church on the other side of the road. You could also use the Oxford 'Park and Rides' (car parks on the outskirts with shuttle buses to the centre) to get into the city. We are an hour's drive from the Georgian town of Cheltenham. The market town of Witney is 15 minutes away and a bus goes once a day to Cheltenham from there. We are less than 10 minutes drive from Blenheim Palace and the old village of Woodstock. There are several National Trust houses within an hour's drive or less—Chastleton House, Waddesdon Manor, Buscot Park, Snowshill House and garden and also the famous Hidcote garden. Further afield you can get to Bath and Stonehenge If you are coming from Heathrow, you can either hire a car there (we're roughly 90 minutes away) or take the half-hourly airline bus to the city of Oxford. You could then get the train from Oxford to Hanborough (11 minutes), after which we're less than 2 miles away by taxi. A car is advisable, however. Approximate car journey times to: Bampton with Downton Abbey film locations (25 minutes) Highclere Castle - the setting for Downton Abbey -the 'home' of the Grantham family.(43 miles - l hour 7 minutes). Basildon Park also with Downton Abbey locations. (50 mins) Blenheim Palace - birthplace of Winston Churchill. (10 minutes) Bladon - burial place of Sir Winston Church (8 minutes) Cotswold Wildlife Park (25 minutes) Bicester Village (30 minutes) Roman Villas of Chedworth (40 minutes) and North Leigh (10 minutes) The beautiful market town of Burford (with civil war connections) 14 miles (20 minutes) Stratford-upon-Avon 58 miles (one hour) Bath - one hour 50 mins Stonehenge - one hour 50 mins There is a steep-sided and deep pond in the garden so please contact me in advance if you are considering bringing children under 12. The pond has now been fenced in. Travel cot and high chair available Hair dryer
